im not much one to preach about the postive benefits of the chronic, but it seems to really help with opiate wd's. I have never had cancer or chemo so i really dont know but when i have had bad wd's i have always felt like there are alot of similarities (nausea, throwing up, etc.) and there are alot of people with cancer who say chronic really helps with the symptoms. any thoughts?

While I understand this concept as far as helping to ease the nausea associated with opiate w/d, I don't like everyone's obsession with pot being a "wonder drug". Smoking pot during w/d can make me paranoid and feel worse sometimes so this type of treatment would not be for me.

I would not be clean without weed for sure.I am smoking still ,every night and i fall asleep instant.

Anxiety is bitch but what can i do.
Recomend some medications by the way.(not benzos cause i am on buprenorphine.)

It can be a wonder drug, but its not for everyone. The only side effect is 'freaking out' and everyone on this board says they freak out when they toke, cause they arent all doped out on benzos or opiates, so they go into withdrawls and the MJ high exacerbates it.

It can help alot of people in alot of different ways. Big pharma will be going crazy if this shiz gets legalized.

Yo man if it helps with withdrawls, toke on. If you can id just stick to toking if it works for you, why always balance on the edge of withdrawls anyways? Just my 2 cents do what you please

I find it helps with lighter withdrawals.. if the withdrawal is heavy then usually it doesn't help until days 3 or 4 (when it can be a major relief). And you only really need to hit it once or twice.

A bag of cannabis was always essential, but I intend on never being in the position again though.

Everytime I have ever tried it during wd I wish to god I hadnt.. sept once.

I feel like it just makes me more sick. Once in a while, I will come across a really good pure weed, and I think that is probably a lot better for wd.

I have no tolerance to weed though, so its pretty much like saying taking shrooms during wd?

Me too... Pot + WD's = Paranoia along with more anxiety and insomnia

This only happens during acute phase. After that. I'm ok using it and it does help with depression during PAWS.

i've been a regular pot smoker for years and i wouldn't always smoke while sick. sometimes it made me feel better for about 10 minutes but then the lethargy and tiredness would just seem worse and sometimes i'd overall feel a lot worse when it wore off.

I agree that it certainly isint a wonder drug and can make withdrawals much worse for some people actually. A very good friend of mine can't even smoke weed on high doses of opiates or benzos let alone while going through withdrawal from opiates. All it does is make my friend paranoid and edgy.

It does help me abit during opiate withdrawals anyway. It's certainly not a silver bullet or a wonder drug for withdrawals but with my other withdrawal meds it can really help. It helps me actually eat (especially if i take another anti-nausea drug such as dimenhydrinate or methotrimeprazine with it) which is a rare thing during withdrawal for me indeed. It also helps me sleep alot and this goes double taken with clonazepam and meds i have that help me sleep.

Weed never really helps with withdrawals. Maybe if i take a bunch of Kratom and then smoke it'll make the Kratom work better. On it's own though, it probably just makes it worse for me.

the only way it would actually work physiologically is if it was some heavy duty indica, heavy enough to slow your nervous system and synopsis connectivity. other wise, when im in w/d, it helps with the pain i was/am taking them for, nausea, and to help take my mind off it.

really though, i have always found it best to watch my dosage level, which can be kept noobishly low, have petty withdrawl symptoms, and be as affective as much larger doses.

that maybe easier said then done if using for pain rather then pleasure, and on a fixed income hah, but still true...

I'd guess it woud have to depend on your tolerance with the weed. I haven't smoked ina few years so I'm pretty sue if I smoked during wds it woud make the wds way worse. Being geeked out duing the crushing depression and anxiety that follows quitting opiates would surely suck the high hard one. Although that one type of weed that doesn't so much get you high but is super motivating and enables you to accomplish so much after smoking it,that might be a good thing. I don't know anything about medical MJ. Maybe it's different. I wondered if it's anything like the seedbanks that use to have catalogs with hundreds of strains.

Pot definitely can aggravate wds for some people like theotherside has mentioned, but I think it also depends on if you smoke REGULARLY.

I've smoked since long before my opiate addiction, and I believe because I have a tolerance marijuana helps a lot. But if you take a withdrawing opiate addict, who's never smoked before, and get them high, they could easily go into a fit of panic.

(fuck I just noticed the above was already said).

Anywho, I've been tapering off pods for a while now and have been smoking pot everynight. If I DID NOT have pot my days would absolutely get A LOT worse. It helps me sleep at night and relax, and it keeps me in a chill hippy sort of mindset when I wake up the next day. I remember I ran out for 2 nights during this taper and I was losing my mind. I do personally consider it a "wonder drug" but at the same time its still just pot. I just respect that it has so many uses besides just getting high.
