Yeah, this election cycles has me totally burned out, I'm voting and letting all the pundits and talking heads talk to themselves.
 
Agreed, I’m a bit burned out myself. I’ll still be watching, although I typically watch a variety of sources and don’t have a specific source in mind at the moment.

I'm probably going to be using my source for euphoric drugs to help me from being depressed.

I am not going to do it, too much for me, man. I'm with the others, this election cycle is a serious bummer and I can only take so much dragging my thoughts towards negativity and loss of faith that things will turn out okay. I will try to ignore it and the next day I will nervously see what headline pops up. It's the same tactic I took in 2016.

i get where you're coming from. for me though , I'd feel like I was missing out on something. After four long years of watching what has happened. It's like reading a long ass book than having someone else tell you how it ends.

I see where you're coming from on it as well. For myself, I can't even watch a college football game if I'm too emotionally invested in the outcome. This election is about our livelihood and safety. A LOT more emotional investment if I allow it. That said, my watching the spectacle isn't going to effect the score at the end, and not watching will prevent me from the angst that is likely. I've found myself most often better off to do my part (VOTE!) then tune out until the next day and read up on the scoring, how the refs screwed us, and how the other team got lucky (with a good dose of 'my team really sucks, wait until next time'....sigh, the curse of a Gator fan).
 
Sticking my head in the sand is a tactic I've used against the media my whole life.

I remember watching the Twin Towers get hit on LIVE TV on that morbid Tuesday morning like it was yesterday. After the second tower got hit I turned the TV off and ignored it for the rest of the day. I'm capable of a massive amount of intentional ignorance and apathy when I want to protect my emotions.

I have to admit that the popularity of this mindset (seen ITT) truly shows how difficult it can be to be a politician. I mean, if we can't stand to watch something on TV what kind of balls would any of us have to tackle these issues in person? Further more, if one does have the stomach to watch the news to extremes are they applying this skill to the real world?

Sometimes I think Trump and his supporters truly believe that their image on the TV is the most important thing this country has to offer.
 
i don't agree with w01fg4ng's statement there either but...

i think president trump himself is driven in large part by his image.

this is a guy who responded- when the world trade center fell and 2606 u.s. citizens were murdered - that "40 Wall street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and it was actually before the World Trade Center the tallest, and and then when they built the World Trade Center it became known as the second-tallest, and now it’s the tallest And I just spoke to my people, and they said it’s the most unbelievable sight, it’s probably seven or eight blocks away from the World Trade Center, and yet Wall Street is littered with two feet of stone and brick and mortar and steel …"

my building is now the tallest :\

and, in the middle of a national pandemic, he bragged via tweet about the t.v. ratings his coronavirus press briefings were receiving:



more americans dying and he's excited about his t.v. ratings :\

Yeah, I definitely believe that for Trump, his image is the most important thing about this entire election/his presidency. But I also definitely don't believe the same is true of Trump supporters. They may be brainwashed into a cult of personality, but it's because they fell victim to the tactics of a manipulative narcissist preying on their fears about the present and future.

There's no denying that Trump is in bed with the media and vice versa. It's a match made in hell.

As far as his supporters are concerned having his image plastered everywhere is a constant reminder of who is in power, which in turn empowers their own feelings of having a voice. A voice that has been told is racist. A voice that has been looked down upon.

My best friends here openly admit that they feel it's ok to call Obama a "n——-" (and they do on a regular basis) and they give Trump 100% responsibility for allowing them to talk like this. In my experience of course.

Oh it's just people keep talking about how there could be all these "shy trump voters". People who don't admit they're trump voters because of social pressures.

It's an excuse to discount polling.

And one I find laughable given how in your face cult like fanatical so many trump voters seem to be in reality.

Hence my joke that a guy who openly calls Obama a “n——-“ is actually a shy trump voter who cares about left wing social pressures.

The friends I'm referring to are actually very introverted. They don't talk like that to just anyone.
