Mass Shootings and Gun Debate 2018 Thread

I wouldn't call it a huge push. A huge push implies theres a real chance it might happen. And I don't think that's the case at all.

There may be a huge push, but there is enormous push back. And as unlikely as it is already, I don't see it ever happening in a Trump presidency.

The FL shooter is a 19 year old kid who went to that school the previous year. I'm not aware of him having a huge amount of money and access to aerosolized drugs or nerve agents. The Vegas shooter on the other hand, yes, definitely a very wealthy guy.

There's a huge push for an assault rifle ban that I'm not in favor of.

Just curious as to your gun ownwership status. Have you got guns and what ones?

Why do you have them if you do and hypothetically if they were banned and no one had one (all recalled with a compensation of worth) would your life be any different?

If you've said before what weapons you have I've missed it so am curious.

Recalls take a lot of time and controlling the entry of illegal arms takes work.

America has a problem land border so being realistic a weapon recall and ban would be problematic to impose anyway.

It would be cool to have a bl who owns a gun poll to see our stats here.

Why did 3 officers + 1 on-campus cop wait outside the building while there was an active shooter inside taking out 17 kids?

Maybe they didn't want to die and failed in their jobs?

Standing still pretty much gives the other person the advantage in a lot of cases. Given that the gunman attended the school, it's likely his knowledge of the school plan was a plus one. Especially the defensive position of behind his own squad car, that's ridiculous.

It was clear the cops chose to stand by and let it happen, with no intention of helping anyone, hoping that no one would notice and that this would all blow over.

a good guy with a gun!

Cops, especially on the east coast, are not good people.

for the record, i want to point out that the only one that wants to take people's guns away is trump, and he wants to do it without due process

I like taking the guns early. To go to court would have taken a long time.
...
Or, Mike, take the firearms first and then go to court. You could do exactly what you’re saying, but take the guns first, go through due process second.
US president donald trump

True, Obama never said he wanted to take peoples' guns either, but republicans (my cousin being the most intense example I know of) were absolutely convinced Obama was gonna come get their guns. My cousin would rant to me about how"when Obama comes to get my guns he's taking them over my dead body!"

But Trump talks about taking away guns without due process and it's okay.

because the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun!

wait.

nevermind.

alasdair

If the authorities were able to prevent all these attacks, then they might have an argument to disarm the population.

After Columbine, police procedure was changed with school shootings so that the first officer on the scene goes in and neutralizes the target. By the time SWAT reached Columbine the shooters had already been dead for a few hours. There was a cop on-campus in Parkland with a gun, he refused to enter. Whatever he was scared. But then 3 broward county officers showed up. So there were 4 of them and they still didn't enter. How can anyone justify that and how would anyone feel safe when cops don't want to engage active shooters?

Still no motive for the Vegas shooting. And lots of unanswered questions

Still no motive for the Vegas shooting.

If I had to guess, his motive was hatred for the human race.

Obsessive/compulsive behavior like gambling in a fixed position for 24 consecutive hours, wearing an adult diaper to avoid bathroom breaks so you don't have to give up the only worthwhile video poker machine in the casino, obviously doesn't help.

I have a hard time imagining people don't understand what went on in his mind, to be honest.

so he's just a sociopath? he was wealthy, had a cushy life, look at previous mass shooters he doesn't fit the profile. no notes left.
there really hasn't been any serious investigation into his life either, how much do you really know about the orchestrator of the america's worst mass shooting
also why did the swat team wait for 70 mins from the time the shooting stopped to enter the room

I get the feeling no answers would be to your satisfaction.

Not saying this next part to you specifically, but something I do wanna say about just how over the top retarded the suggestion by some that mass shootings are a conspiracy to take guns away from the people really is.

It actually makes MORE sense that mass shootings are a conspiracy AGAINST disarming the public.

There have been so many mass shootings in the last few years. It is a fact, that every time they happen, people rush out and buy more guns out of fear of impending gun control. It is also a fact that more guns in public circulation makes it increasingly difficult to take them away again.

There are more guns in public hands now than if there hadn't been any mass shootings at all. And yet, this supposed next stage where they actually start taking the guns never arrives. Every year, more mass shootings, but still no gun confiscation. For decades now.

Actually successfully getting rid of the guns in public circulation has become far less feasible as a result of the mass shootings. So am I supposed to believe some super powerful conspiracy is smart and powerful enough to control people and get them to commit mass shootings, control police response, and hire crisis actors where supposedly they never happened at all (which is seriously sick by the way). Yet is also apparently so stupid that they don't realize how this is only making their objective harder?

Yeah right. Totally retarded is what it is.

The government is not going to take all the guns away from the people, that's absurd. Not to mention they have no need to, because if the military decided to do some sort of hostile takeover, you think your AR-15 and whatever else is gonna do shit against what the military's got? The most powerful military in the world many times over?

Anyone talking about how victims of these mass shootings are crisis actors needs to seriously look in the mirror and think long and deeply, because that's, as Jess said, seriously sick, and I'd like to see those people say it to the faces of the people suffering.

I fully respect that some people are against further gun control, even though I firmly disagree with it (I at least at very minimum think we NEED to abolish the ability to buy guns without any of the background/security/registration checks at gun shows). But when people start talking about how grieving and angry high school kids are crisis actors, and that the government is staging mass shootings that are killing dozens of people so they can eventually take our guns (after first putting a lot more into peoples' hands)... it pisses me off, I gotta admit.
