Mass Shooting and Gun Control Megathread

Well let’s hear some of your solutions then

Broadening education to fields that help people deal with tuff aspects of life. We spend all this time educating people about fields most of us never end up using directly. Can’t tell you the last time I used calculus.

What about developing and educating students with life and social wisdom and skills designed to help us all through common modern social and personal issues.

Changing policies to heal society instead of injuring it in the name of protecting it. The drug war for one has destroyed the family unit in so many families. Rehabilitation in the criminal system doesn’t rehabilitate anyone and leads to a life sentence as far as the criminal record goes. Underlining policies like these need to change. America needs to ditch is Cold War attitude and use its wealth to help heal and develop the world.

It’s the big changes that will solve this.. not trying to take away tools of murders.

Ok so education and mental health, I think that’s been stated and most of us agree on that. That’s it ? That solves the gun problem ?

If we address the underlying issues there won’t be a gun problem. If you address the issue of prohibition there isn’t going to be drug market violence.. look at alcohol prohibition.

We always look for a quick fix.. like remove the guns.. we need to tackle the big issues that are making life so cheap.

Maybe I’m just being a negative Nancy, but I honestly don’t think we can heal the nation no matter how much we spend, gun violence is inevitable

Man, so some Dems in the House are pushing for minor restrictions, such as increasing background checks and raising the purchase age (common sense), but then they had to throw in 'high' capacity (aka regular capacity) magazines. I went to Academy today and their shelves were fuckin' cleaned of any standard capacity AR magazines. I just went ahead and ordered some extras directly from Magpul in case they really push for that, and I was looking for an excuse to replenish my old worn out magazines anyhow but... Good work Dems, helping Americans panic buy every two months is REALLY helping solve the 'gun problem'.

It’s almost like they like it when people panic buy….hmmmm

Wonder how many shooters were coerced by the FBI that we don't know about

I'd like to see a massive social experiment take place. Run a scientific study tweaking variables and testing different scenarios in different states to see what happens.

Have a few states with no guns in schools, and a few states with AR-15s in every hallway and free glocks for kids. Lets see what is safer.

Invest in healthcare, invest in education, invest in prisons, test them all, you got 50 states and lots of big cites to let Google run a giant data analytics on the nation.

Should be a 10-30 year study.

Latest shooter (Tulsa) did so because the doctor wouldn’t treat his pain after a surgery. So are these deaths in this instance due to guns, or the opioid “crisis”?

My guess is the latter.
No way really ? Why not go after the dr. Office..not that that’s justified but why go after little kids..I’ll never understand that

I’m not sure if I’m misreading you here but he did go shoot two doctors and two other people and then topped himself. The police found a note on his body alluding to planning to kill the doctor who gave him the surgery, and he saw him the day before he killed these people because his pain was real bad apparently.

My hypothesizing that he didn’t receive proper pain treatment isn’t fact but I don’t think it’s far fetched. I’ve wanted to curse out a doctor before, I’m sure some people get madder than that at doctors in these times.
