Mass Shooting and Gun Control Megathread

Now we are getting somewhere.. how about education.. we sure do teach ourselves quite a bit of useless horseshit, Think we could do much better on preparing children and young adults for our world? Maybe if they learned about different things..
You mean like critical race theory and actual American history?

It’s sort of fascinating seeing the dichotomy in thinking with liberals spewing emotion about the children, and their take on abortion at nine months.
Now you're just trolling. That is a Tucker Carlson/Laura Ingraham/Faux news myth that anyone is aborting at 9 months. It's the repubes who consistently vote against universal healthcare, child tax credit, paid family leave, etc. that would actually help children grow and thrive. But they care more about fetuses than actual humans.

Many parents tried
they were forcefully subdued by by the cops
I guess we can all agree that the police massively failed and waited more than 40 minutes before entering the school with the goal of subduing the shooter. In fact, a sheriff even admitted that some cops entered the school to evacuate their own kids and chose not to engage the shooter.

With all the things we could do for children.. is gun control where we should be focusing?
This. It's trite, but guns don't kill people.. or knives in the case of the UK. People kill people.

We have different situations in our respective countries but in both cases the political class only focus on the low hanging fruit. Neither want to tackle the underlying causative factors that drives the psychology in the first place. Much easier to treat a surface symptom than a root cause. Putting knife arches in schools might deter a few kids from carrying knives, but it doesn't solve the issue, and it actually creates more tension in the minds of everyone that causes negative effects elsewhere.

One of the biggest issues is the FBI being aware of these shooters but allowing them to commit attacks.
These attacks will continue until they ban guns.
They were monitoring all the school kids for potential threats using AI to scan social media, according to an article I saw. I find it hard to believe that in this era where you can get banned almost instantly for posting medical misinformation that no warning sirens go off somewhere when someone writes "I'm going to shoot... ". Try saying keywords like "bomb" and "Allaaaaah!" over a telephone conversation and the NSA will monitor you at the very least (given that is what they're supposedly budgeted for).

I just don't buy the idea the authorities were not aware. They literally monitor everything. They have AI now as well to sort and sift data. If YouTube can recommend me videos based on the speech contained within another video I'm watching, then the authorities can pluck out anything they damn well please from communications over social media.

Would not be surprised if they let this happen for political purposes. The cops restraining parents but going in to save their own kids is well suspect.

in 2020 firearms overtook auto accidents as the leading cause of death in children (source: nejm).

it's pretty relevant.

CDC won't let me link to it with the parameters already filled out but the data is pulled from here (which sucks to fill out). Need to click agree then fill it all out

  1. The Shooter crashed his vehicle into a ditch near the school before making entry.
  2. There were 2 police officers and a school resources officer on scene before the shooter entered the school.
  3. All 3 of the above fired at the shooter before he entered the school.
  4. Both of the police officers were shot, sustaining non-threatening injuries.
  5. ghghopmaax191.jpg
  6. After the shooter entered the school, the police on scene didn't make an effort to enter the school for 45 to 60 minutes.
  7. The police officers on scene physically restrained a number of parents who wanted to enter the school to confront the shooter and/or save their children.
  8. One parent was restrained by police, and then once let go, she did enter the school, and bring a number of children out including her own while the police still hadn't made entry.
  9. The Shooter barricaded himself in 4th grade class room.
  10. All students and teachers in that classroom were killed over the course of the 45 minutes between the shooter barricading himself inside, and the police making entry into the classroom.
  11. Entry against the shooter was made by a Border Patrol swat (or other specialized) team.
  12. 2 of the swat team were shot as they made entry, sustaining non-threatening injuries.
  13. The Border Patrol agents responded on their own without being requested by the police.
*some of this may be less than 100% accurate, but this is the best version so far*

1- Here’s the video, people need to know (shows families begging police to intervene/ officers stopping parents

2- police confirm officers got their own children out

Those cops are fucking cowards. They ran in, got their own children out, then prevented and threatened to taze the other parents trying to do the same. Then stood there for an hour without doing shit as the kids died inside.

Some random badass border patrol agents are the ones who went in, without being told to do so and without backup, and ended the threat.

Nah dude, see, I think that's what is different this time. People AREN'T just saying "it's all about the guns". People ARE saying "well fuck.....what's the real problem(s) here?". And that's just the thing, it's not ONE problem. There are a wholllle bunch of problems that yall need to fix. That's why America is so totally fucked.
A culture fundamentally based on fear.
Fear of each other.
Fear of authority.
Fear of outsiders.
Fear of the future.
Fear of sickness, death, poverty.
Then there is the lack of funding and services to:
Mental health
Youth care
LGBTQ+ and minority groups
Womens health
AND then there's the drug problem
And the prisons being overpopulated

And even after all of that, if you introduce gun buyback schemes and get rid of even 50% of guns, that will make an IMMENSE and significant difference in the amount of gun deaths.

Your argument about "well bad guys will always have guns so we may as well not bother addressing the gun issue at all" is fucking ridiculous. Every country in the world has bad guys with guns. Not every country has a gun death toll problem, only America does. Less guns = less gun deaths.
And here on East-The U.S. was a higher upgrade in many terms.....but the things about gun control and sale are one of weird things for me.may be comes from Wild West....a social phenomen

I just don't buy the idea the authorities were not aware. They literally monitor everything.
I was just saying this to my husband yesterday actually. How did no one not intervene wayyy before this kid did any of the things he explicitly told people he was going to do?

Yeah man, the whole gun thing doesn't make sense to anyone except Americans, who seem to froth and get hard over guns for some reason.....

What I don't get is why the police barely acted in this latest shooting. Wouldn't enter the school to confront the gunman, wouldn't let parents run in to save their children, and the guy was already opening fire before he entered the school and the police failed to take him down in a shootout. Wtf?

The school was surrounded by police while the gunman was actively killing children, but nobody could go in or out.

Not sure why anybody is talking about gun control when it seems to me that this is a total failure of the police. Officers should be willing to put their lives on the line to save children otherwise they are totally pointless.
Lots more info and corrections of previous reports but it does look like they were a little slow to respond. My question is why was the fence so little and why was the back door unlocked AND unguarded. He simply walked in. These nuts are smart enough to most always pick a soft target !!!!

@mal3volent there are so many factors playing into that data

population, socioeconomic factors, policing factors

most of the top countries on here are basically run by gangs and are corrupt countries, also I find it interesting that a lot of them are islands (I wonder how that plays into it)

Jamaica, for example, has a huge gang problem a lot of people don't know about and picture it as some tropical weed paradise

Kingstone ghetto police come rarely and highly weaponized. One of the violent place/towns at some point.those i know.never been to Jamaica

Guns are NEVER going away. If you take them from the law abiding citizens then only the bad guys would have them but it's a mute point because over 50% of the population own a gun and will NEVER give em up. I'm a gun owner and totally agree with tough laws involving background checks etc. But we don't enforce the laws we have and then each time a tragedy like this happens, it's all about the guns. We have a serious problem with mental illness in our young people that is going completely ignored while politicians cry about more gun control. We need to fix the problem with these youngsters and I don't know how but I do know that is where we need to focus our attention.

Moot - i.e. open to debate.

'Mute' is a policy that you gun nuts ought to adopt... :|

We might not have guns, but we've got the grammar police. :p

Serious question. If you have a seriously disturbed individual in your house who is threatening to stab you with a knife, do you:

a) Remove all knives from their reach?

b) Blame them for being a fuckin retard and issue shit loads of knives to everyone else in order to maximise the carnage?

So I assume the UK has banned all knives then, right? Since you guys have a problem with knife attacks?

If you have a seriously disturbed individual in your house who is threatening to stab you with a knife, do you:

We already have red flag laws in many states here, including New York where the racist guy shot up the supermarket.
