the majority of pain mgmt specialist I have heard about frown on marijuana use and will often refuse to provide pain medication to patients that use marijuana for relief as well.

so when it comes down to it, have other pain patients out there just given up using thc and cbd so that access to narcotics is granted?

Marijuana is so beneficial and helps manage my symptoms, especially nausea and GI pain. I am being referred to a pain doc for multiple chronic back conditions and am not sure how to proceed here. I do not tell my docs about my thc and cbd usage as I have found, as stated above, that it is often frowned upon and access to other medications may be denied as a result.

crappy thing is its "legal" where I live yet still treated as schedule 1 by employers and healthcare providers.

In pain mgmt., I had to have a medical license for pot, otherwise I would have gotten tossed out for violating my narcotics contract. Stated reason being MJ has reactions with certain medications. The only clarity on this he provided was some ambiguous possible bad reaction with valium, which I found pretty funny considering he wouldn't prescribe me any benzo, despite my documented use and need of them.

I think docs have their own reasonings and whatnot about pot and pain management. There certainly doesn't seem to be a standard policy with this.

I would just NOT mention it... anytime I have ever mentioned pot to ANY of my doctors it has ended bad... very bad. Unfortunately... and it's legal in my area too. SMH. The only doc who never seemed to mind it was my psychiatrist, old hippy kinda dude.. also he didn't have any idea of the difference in dosing vyvanse vs adderall... kind of sad tbh lol. I was taking vy 40s when I first saw him, and I told him I wanted to switch to adderall. So then he gives me 40mg of addy a day ? (Equal to 80mg of vyvanse)

thanks for the responses.
I wouldn't just come out and say it but I know drug screening is a large part of pain mgmt contracts here so I'll piss dirty.
certainly it interacts with opioids and benzodiazepines, I can see the reasoning for concern.
Though, as most of us know, if done responsibly, mixing opioids, benzos, and pot isn't a death sentence. I do it every day just to function with the pain.

Yeah, I mean of course it can be a dangerous combo, and you know that.. but pot really isn't shit. Docs make a big deal out of nothing with it if you ask me.. the reason I left my last MD is he would not give me my Valium or kpin, or vyvanse BECAUSE I pissed dirty for ONLY POT.... needless to say I was furious with his old Fuck ass for being so obtuse to the location and times.. never saw him again left after telling him to his face "there's absolutely no way in hell you have my best interest at heart. Goodbye"

This isn't necessarily related to Harm Reduction guys. It's really more concerning the law and standards of medical practice, so I'm going to close it. Besides, the truth is that the only one who can give you a definitive answer is the prescriber himself and none of us can possibly anticipate this decision. I can tell you that many Pain Management clinics will indeed boot you for "Recreational" (non-prescribed) use of Cannabis, even if you're simply treating your pain. It's terribly, but it's true.

Some Doctors will be more understanding I'm sure. I'm also sure it helps to live in a state with more relaxed and liberal laws surrounding the use of Cannabis. I would definitely recommend being up front and honest with your Doctor from the get go. You don't want to be labeled a liar in Pain Management.
