That is one of the big reasons i always hated her. She soured relations between the British and Irish people so much that they are now only being repaired. There was never any chance of a peace process happening as long as she was in power and there was no better recruiter for the provos or the INLA then Thatcher. The mere mention of her name and the barbaric way she treated the Irish population of Ulster and her hatred of them would have been enough to make me join the INLA or provos.
All the same the UK as a whole suffered just as much as Ireland did under Thatcher. Her policy of Neo-Liberalism nearly destroyed the UK from within and many working class people suffered under her tyranny. The brutal fashion in which she put down the miners strikes in Wales and elsewhere across the UK, her hatred of union's or anything even remotely like Socialism, the power that she gave the forces of the state to break the strikes and her unabashed support of scabs not to mention the Falklands war makes her one of those very rare politicians in which nobody with a right mind can find any sympathy for.
My only regret is that she did not die of colon cancer in some part of the world where morphine is not used
