hey sorry if this question has already been covered many times, i searched but came up with too many results and none were specific, ..... just a quick question... mandelin tested yellow tweety birds... straight up green then got darker as time progressed till about 20 - 30 seconds when it became blue, remained royal blue for about 1 minute after this then i disposed the solution. thanks :) what does this mean?/ on the wiki page for mandelin i couldnt find what blue meant..

While many possibilities exist, including the presence of other drugs such as Phenazone, perhaps the most likely explanation is that another oxidising agent was also present. When Mandelin reacts, vanadium present as the VO2 ^- aka vanadyl (V) ion is reduced to the VO ^2+ ion aka vanadyl (IV), which is normally blue. However, different complexes formed from reactions with different compounds (drugs etc) can produce different colours, including shades of green-blue.

Could it be that the tablet contained meth that had previously been cut with sugar? Sugar will reduce the VO2 ^+ ion to the VO ^2+ ion in the presence of acid (sulfuric in this case). This produces a blue colour. Some excipients or binders may also cause this reaction.
