MODESTO, Calif. - Police say a man tried to cut off his own arm at a restaurant in Modesto, Calif., because he thought he had injected air into a vein while shooting cocaine and feared he would die unless he took drastic action.

Authorities say 33-year-old Michael Lasiter rushed into the Denny's restaurant late Friday and started stabbing himself in one arm with a butter knife he grabbed from a table.

They say that when that knife didn't work Lasiter took a butcher knife from the kitchen and dug it into his arm.

Police Sgt. Brian Findlen says Lasiter told officers he thought he needed to amputate his arm to keep himself from dying from the cocaine injection.

Lasiter was taken to a hospital for treatment of severe cuts.

The Denny's closed for the night.
 
How is he gonna feel when he learns the truth behind this idiotic drug myth (i.e. that it would take twenty or thirty insulin rigs worth of air to hurt him?) Coupled with a coke comedown. Ouch.
 
As stupid as that man is, trying to cut off your own arm in a Denny's with a butter knife takes balls of steel. I'd do drug runs with him anyday.

I live 45 minutes from modesto. Why is it that crazy shit always seems to go down there. Congressman Condits murder trial, Lacey pertersons murder.... its like they have some sort of lust for negitave attention.

OMG. I've heard of people cutting off their arms to save their lives, like that guy who got stuck under a rock in the desert. He was there for over a week and finally decided no one was comming for him so he made the very hard decision to cut off his arm (the arm that was stuck under the rock). Turns out he made the right decision, his mom didn't think it was odd for him to be gone that long so didn't call the authorities, no would have looked for him till he was long dead.

I don't know if I'd have the strength to do such a thing but the mind and body can do some amazing things.

But this guy thinking he had to cut off his arm because of an possible air bubble WOW. but still it takes balls to do something like that... even on coke.

Where'd you get that from? I would have thought even a small air bubble could cause severe pain (although unlikely to be lethal and definitely not worth cutting off your arm for!)? I'm thinking divers can get the bends from very small bubbles of nitrogen, but maybe i'm wrong and you need a lot of bubbles before that becomes dangerous... someone set me straight..
 
The bends occur when the nitrogen in your blood makes your entire blood supply boil. Not just some 1cc(max) dose.
 
ive had air bubbles go in b4 n nuttin happend, the thought of getting a butter knife to cut my arm off never popped into my head.....jesus christ that must of been sum prime coke. Couldn't of he just asked for a steak knife? it might of made it a little easier than a fucking butter knife
