MAC vs PC

i started this thread as a way to help me decide which type of machine to invest in.
i believe its good to have around so that people can see what others think the plusses and minues of either machine are. one does not need to take sides, just answer the questions. the more people answer, the more of an informed decision a computer shopper might make. i did ask for technical not personal opinions, although with anything i knew that opinions would enter the equation
choosing between computers is a completely different spectrum than choosing a soda

^ nice point, but misdirected. I'm acting towards a specific, third agenda that defuses the entire debate entirely - not taking part in the two-sided, us vs. them structure

Woohoo! A fucking red light. 8) My Intellimouse has one too. And how do you feel it's ergonomic? Half of my hand hangs off the back...I don't find it comfortable to use for five minutes, let alone do any lengthy work with it. No wheel, no second button = crap mouse. I'd rather click the right button to open a secondary pop-up that have to hold one button down for a couple seconds to accomplish the same task. And besides, the wheel makes browsing the web so much better.
I don't mind Macs (although I think they should lose the terrible color scheme)...but I would never buy one...well, maybe one of their laptops...those are sweet.

well, you will always have those people
its pretty easy to spot them though
and to steer clear of their opinion if you so wish
but this topic had to be done
there are a lot of people (including myself) who do not know the fundamental differences (other than sex appeal of course... thats quite obvious)

i came to a realization tonight, while debating this very issue....
now we all know macs are drop dead sexy, right?
this is most likely the one point 98%+ of both pc and mac users agree on. (mainly the only point) but on with it....
i think the designers over at the mac labs should set off on a side venture and start a toy company - there by creating the most lust inspiring and fuckable vibrator ever.

i don't find macs sexy. calling a computer sexy sounds dumb anyways. i mean my computer turns me on but i can't really talk about it. macs look like plastic toys, and when they put that much emphasis on design i feel like its a lesser machine. im a pc user myself, for many reasons.

I have to work on a pc all day, so I wouldn't want to go home to one as well! The Mac suits me for home use far better. I far prefer the Mac's OS, the screen graphics are more funky and it's just a lot more fun to use.
I like the clear Mac Pro-mouse, both its looks and feel, but I wish it had a left and right click like a pc mouse - it would be a lot more user-friendly. I think if I actually had to do real work on it (esp where I'm trying to work at speed) it would drive me mad.
The main thing I don't like about the Mac is that since the demise of Napster, and latterly Audiogalaxy, the ability to find and download mp3s has all but vanished on the Mac. There are still plenty of sites for pc users to DL, but the sites/software usually aren't developed for Macs.

i didnt read the whole thread, but ive been in several debates 10+ pages long on other boards...
the one thing i would like to clarify before i go on is that "pc" is an achronym for "personal computer" not windows, so mac falls into the realm of "pc". a pc can run windows, mac, linux, unix, sun o/s
which is better for photoshop, illustrator, 3d rendering programs, or video editing programs
depends on how well u know how to use them... and witch o/s your talkin about here. the common testing forum has always been how fast photoshop opens to determine a processor speed, and while we all know that mac's speeds are rated lower/differantly then pc's, load times arnt that important. how well the perform is. ive werked in both, i prefer windows based (win2kpro to be specific) and am faster and more efficiant in it. the main advantge mac has here is you can turn off virtual memory and alocate as much as u want to any single program
If one was to get a Mac, would it be worth it (cost as it relates to increase in performance in design programs) to get a dual 1 ghz over the 933
at nearly $4100 for the dual gig mac, unless you have a serious home video/audio studio, u dont need that system
If one was to get a PC, would it be worth it (cost as it relates to increase in performance in design programs) to get a dual chip over a single
again, depends on your needs, however i just speced out the parts to build a dual pIII 900mhz machine w/ 1.5gigs of ram and a 60gig 7200ide hd for a friend, total cost was under $900, and the board held a total of 3gigs of ram
which interface is more stable
depends on what your doing, and whos using it. ive sucessfully brought win98se, win2kpro, winxp, mandrake 8.1, novell 4.1 and 5.1 and sco unix to a stand still, so its hard to say
what do you think is the best overall deal for what you are getting (performance/price)
windows based machine, hands down. the cheapest power mac is 1300, you can get a complete system that will rival that or beat it with winxp loaded on it from dell for under that, and one that has twice as many bells and wistles for a few hundred more - plus the ability to build a computer w/ the hardware of your choosing, its not hard to put a puter together

Actually the cheapest mac is $1000, cheaper if your a student. It's got a 700 mhz G4 with 128mb ram and a 40 gig HD.

neoracle - plz read my post, i said the cheapest power mac is $1300
just for giggles, heres the link to other mb that is now on its 5th page discussing mac vc pc
