Lucid Dreaming

I wanted to know if anyone had any good tips on how to properly have a lucid dream and have it as much as you want? I've been trying to keep track of my dreams in a journal just so I could remember them. Out of nowhere I had a lucid dream the other day, finally. It was strange though because I was in the same exact position in my bed and everything. I got up, looked around and instantly knew something was off because everything had a grey tone to it like in a photograph or something. I even remembered this one thing I read about where if you want to prolong your dream to spin around 3 or more times and it should give you an extra couple of minutes. So there I was in my dream trying to spin lmao but my head ( or vision ) was the only thing spinning instead of my whole body. I don't know how to explain it, but I woke up after that and now I'm not able to have one again.

What do you guys think will help to achieve this because I'm dying to have an adventure and explore just about everything I can with the few hours I have before I wake up?
 
are you using a substance to aid in the dreaming or just trying to make it happen naturally? cause if you're using an aid, Id say do a small amount more, don't overdue it, but do a bigger dose and see where that gets you. If you're against it or just not using any kind of semi-dangerous aid, then I'd suggest spicy food before going to bed. You could try the spicy food at different times, the amount of food and level of hot to see how to get the biggest affect, if it works for you at all. I've had some pretty crazy dreams I contribute to having a fair amount of spicy food that day.

No, I'm actually trying to make it work naturally, but I'm definitely not against using an aid. What exactly were you talking about (substance)? And thanks for the tip, I'll have to try that out. Is eating spicy foods an anecdotal experience or is it well known to help aid in this type of thing?
 
It's probably in the middle of being scientific fact and old wife's tale... It usually depends on the person and probably a couple other factors that I'm unaware of. I've had some wild dreams on DXM and DPH, but I wouldn't recommend either. I hear lucid dreams are a part of an opium high but don't know from experience. Any drug that has delusional properties has a good chance of lucid dreams with it.
 
I lucid dream every night and came about naturally overtime. I was depressed and sleeping a lot and my dreams offered an escape to reality and my imagination kind of took over. But usually people learn to lucid dream by journaling their dreams. You got to start remembering your dreams as much as possible so you can find your dream signs (common reoccurences/patterns in your dreams) For example my dreams are always adventurous. Flying is a common one too. You want to implant these signs in your mind before you sleep so your subconscious can recognize these in your dreams when u sleep and hopefully eventually you will and become aware that your dreaming and that's where the fun comes in. Theres many levels to a lucid dream, becoming aware of the dream is the first step. Watch this video and you will learn a lot.

There are a few standard techniques for lucid dreaming. Wake induced lucid dreaming (WILD), this is basically meditation and would probably require some knowledge of the practice before you can get anywhere.

You need to focus really hard on the blackness of your closed eyes. Eventually images will start to manifest and you should have some control over them.

The other technique is MILD which stands for Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams. I'm not quite sure how to say that but a search on google got me this:

The MILD technique employs prospective memory, remembering to do something (notice you're dreaming) in the future. Dr. LaBerge developed this technique for his doctoral dissertation and used it to achieve lucid dreaming at will. The proper time to practice MILD is after awakening from a dream, before returning to sleep. (Modified from EWLD, p. 78)

Setup dream recall.
Set your mind to awaken from dreams and recall them. When you awaken from a dream, recall it as completely as you can.

Focus your intent.
While returning to sleep, concentrate single-mindedly on your intention to remember to recognize that you're dreaming. Tell yourself: "Next time I'm dreaming, I will remember I'm dreaming," repeatedly, like a mantra. Put real meaning into the words and focus on this idea alone. If you find yourself thinking about anything else, let it go and bring your mind back to your intention.

See yourself becoming lucid.
As you continue to focus on your intention to remember when you're dreaming, imagine that you are back in the dream from which you just awakened (or another one you have had recently if you didn't remember a dream on awakening). Imagine that this time you recognize that you are dreaming. Look for a dreamsign--something in the dream that demonstrates plainly that it is a dream. When you see it say to yourself: "I'm dreaming!" and continue your fantasy. Imagine yourself carrying out your plans for your next lucid dream. For example, if you want to fly in your lucid dream, imagine yourself flying after you come to the point in your fantasy when you become lucid.

Repeat until your intention is set.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 until either you fall asleep or are sure that your intention is set. If, while falling asleep, you find yourself thinking of anything else, repeat the procedure so that the last thing in your mind before falling asleep is your intention to remember to recognize the next time you are dreaming.
 
Anyone tried Calea zacatechichi, Silene capensis, Entada rheedii, Artemisia vulgaris? I'm wondering if I should try and find some. Any other dream inducing plants I should know of?

I tried calea a few years ago, when i fell asleep I became very lucid, had witches circling around me on brooms in my dream and I couldn't wake myself up. It does seem to really help with the vividness of your dreams, which will improve your chances of obtaining lucidity. Melatonin and 5-htp also help a lot.

I used to practice all kinds of different lucid dreaming techniques, the best for me is to look at clocks, try light switches or anything electronic, if anything seems off, question whether it is a dream. I do this when I'm awake too lol. Sometimes i'll dream and something just doesn't add up and i'll be like 'this must be a dream' then I use my mind to fly and when it works I know for sure. Don't bother asking dream characters if you're dreaming, they always seem to lie or avoid the question and I interrogate them heavily lol.

Now that i'm not always really high on benzos my dreams are overly vivid and I always unintentionally become lucid, i think it detracts from the restfulness of sleep, as I'm conscious. It's also really fucked up, I can wake myself up from nightmares by screaming in my dream and letting out a small little sound that either wakes me up or wakes my gf up so she can wake me up. I mostly have nightmares now, kind of sucks but it's great to be able to become lucid and take control and get yourself out a nightmares. The other day I had about 10 'false' awakenings, became lucid every time and was getting frustrated with how confusing it was.

keeping a dream journal is also very helpful, if you spend enough time reading about lucid dreams then chances are it'll just happen randomly to you, after enough times you'll be able to control it somewhat, and after years of that it'll likely happen all on its own, that's how it went for me at least. Sometimes I randomly pop out of my body and end up floating too, don't know what to make of any of it anymore, it's just strange.

I also try to prolong my dreams by spinning but this usually makes everything go black and I get stuck in the 'void' as I like to call it, just spinning around, suspended in the pitch black space. Not sure what this is about either.
 
I've been lucid dreaming for many years, usually every few months or so. I have also recently been doing a totally new kind of dreaming for me, where I do know i am dreaming but it's more like I am seeing a movie with my eyes closed. It's not quite dreaming, but I can make things very real and visual, kinda like a visual hallucination I guess. (But it's not.) Anyhow, I can't ever START a lucid dream by myself, but once I realize I am dreaming, I say "increase clarity" in my dream out-loud a lot, until I begin to see things really clearly, things that I am putting there (like the ocean, or I might be flying in the sky). I tell myself I am dreaming and continually remind myself not to open my eyes. I always make water be somewhere so I can feel it, and it always feels totally real, so I stay in the dream longer. I also tend to make myself float above the ground or fly higher, often VERY high like almost into space, and I'll make myself visualize the actual mountains, skyscrapers, tree tops, etc. By making myself concentrate on the things I love to dream about like that, I think I stay in the lucid dreaming state longer. I had lucid dreams like 4 times a week
now I'm on medication cause I needed it to stop... you don't know how messed up it can get..

When you dream, your mind doesn't create a world exactly like the one we live in. Cause and effect, and logic, break down a little. You can use this to your advantage. Get into the habit of looking at clocks twice whenever you see one. In a dream, when you look away and then look back at the clock, the time jumps randomly. If you see it happen, you know you are dreaming. Light-switches don't work in dreams, either. In time, you don't need specific cues, you get used to recognising the general weirdness of the dream. When you realise you're dreaming, you may get excited and wake yourself up. If you feel yourself waking from the dream, spin round as fast as you can. When the blur resolves, you will still be dreaming.

All of this is obviously just my experience/opinion.

Wow dude. I mean, for me i just go to sleep, have a few dreams, they are random and shit and i wake up and i forget them instantly pretty much and carry on with me day. Your sleep is like, fucked uuup! haha.


Personally ive only had a few lucid dreams. They were awesome and ill never forget them. The thing i dont understand is like, i sometimes am dreaming and im like man i know im fucking dreaming... but i just forget instantly? Or ill look at a clock like mentioned and its not right, its like 33:33 or something random and im like yeah thats not right.. but just carry on doing whatever im doing!!

Grrr.. its like im lucid but i dont have control to deter from the path? I dunno
 
Ive had the clock time change the 2nd time i looked at it while sober and awake though....

Now that i think about it, what do you guys make of this: I was sober, awake, in my room on my computer. I looked at the clock on the monitor, and it said 2:48am... and i was thinking fuck off its so not that time, the computer must be off. I pick up my phone and check the time and its 12:30, and im like aww yeah sweet, thats about what i thought it should be - i look up and the clock on the monitor has changed to 12:30!

I play games, browse the net, facebook etc for a while, and when i finally am getting tired and look at the time - 2:48am, the exact same time i had first mistakenly seen, but this time real because again i checked my phone and it matched. I cannot explain it and it is something i dont think ill ever understand.
 
ive only had 1 lucid dream, after coming back from a heavy night/morning a bit tired and fucked i had a nap on my bed around mid day. it was intense. was sat downstairs talking to a girl and her mother, then i realized... hang on a second... am i awake or asleep? asked them, and they said i was awake. and i was like... im not awake... im asleep. wtf? then weird shit happened, clocks wouldnt tell time or the numbers kept mixing up. couldnt wake myself up and started to panic. ended up running around saying "somebody help me please, im stuck in a dream!!" it was almost like real life clarity. remember thinking, fuck this, im gonna jump infront of a lorry, this will wake me up... then i stood in the road, everything was so clear i could see the driver, the lorry came... then bang. i "woke" up, felt a bit off, got out of bed... then realized i was still dreaming. shortly after i snapped awake again thinking.... am i still dreaming or not??? and it felt surreal. couldnt tell if i was awake or dreaming for around 15 minutes, then i started to come back to normal

had sleep paralysis as well, that is horrible. shaking violently or unable to move, eyes roll. must be pure torture being paralyzed, the short amount of time being in sleep paralysis is bad enough
 
Hey all sorry for not reading this thread through but the title seemed the appropriate place for me to post this.

I have been thinking about lucid dreaming ever since re-reading Dr. Feynman's book "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! (Adventures of a Curious Character)" quite recently and decided to try it out for myself. I quickly found that if I tried to focus on one fantastical event while lying completely still I could physically sense my body preparing for sleep. Multiple body zaps (at first considered panic attacks or hot flashes) soon became known as my brain paralyzing my muscles where I was unable to move for several seconds after they occured.

I then reached the stage were dreaming was the next step, but I couldn't quite let go of my consious enough. I remember the first time I broke through I thought I saw a yellow dog attacking me and quickly burst from my bed, and only afterwords realized that this had been a dream and for the first time ever agreed with what Dr. Feynman said about how we do dream in colour. Shortly thereafter when I got to that point where my body was perfectly poised to dream I used the technique of looking up to a night sky (others say blue sky or just up in general) and I was transported to a fully lucid dream. Of course fully is putting it over the top as there were many times I lost myself in the dream and others where I lost control (illogical ideas seeming logical and vice-versa). Still anytime I want (assuming I'm not too out of it) I can go to bed with the knowledge I'll be able to do practically anything I want, fly, breath underwater, meet with famous people, have sex with anyone, etc. in a few short minutes if I can be bother to really focus.

Furthermore, any time I now have a bad dream, the moment it goes bad I realize it must be a bad dream and can turn it into a lucid one. This probably has something to do with having a good life where badness is not a logical part of it. Akin to other reality checks mentioned above.

Anywhoo anybody considering this should try it out. I mean we spend what a 1/3 of our lives asleep so being able to experience it is pretty cool.
 
for me, lucid dreaming seems to happen alot when i need to get up but i decide to snooze my alarm. those 5-10mins is when im able to fly! as im flying i realize i need to get up so i crash into something and then i wake up :) havent been able to master anything else in my dream besides flying then crashing. opiates and 5htp have also led to lucid dreaming.
