I'm almost 44, 6'2", 250lbs, 20% body fat. Train with weights in the gym but am not one of those hardcore guys, I'm pretty low key and am certainly not huge.

But my eating is inconsistent and improper. I have depression and sleep problems that makes it difficult for me to be as organized as i had been, treatment is still being sorted out.

I want to clean um my diet and eat some thing like 50% protein, 30% complex carbs, and 20% healthy oils and fats. I plan to re-adjust those proportions as I burn up some of my fat as fuel at the gym.

But I"m having a hard time organizing and getting into a routine of buying and preparing the foods I need to eat. My wife is a wonderful person, she's a saint, but she has her own way of cooking and isn't going to take the time to take charge of buying and preparing foods I direct her to on a schedule.

Suggestions? I just bought a protein meal replacement shake powder as my wife prepares a lot of starches and carbs, not too much protein and I need to be eating a LOT, especially since I want to build muscle mass.

Maybe start out with one day a week were I prepare good clean meals, or start with breakfasts and eat a nice balaned breakfast, I used be be good with that and brought my total cholesterol down from 278 to 136 with dietary changes alone (oats daily and fish oil mosty as well as 'fat' weight loss.

So I"m haing a hard time getting up on the horse here and am not sure what my short term goal(s) should be, i don't have a lot of energy due to depression and my sleep disorders I get hardly no ruminative sleep that one needs to function properly so many days simply going to the grocery store seems like a daunting and overwhelming task some days.

I have used steroids before, but since I don't have my diet in place it would be a waste until I get on point with a clean diet weighted heavily toward lean protons.

Any and all feedback much appreciated!

eating fresh raw fruit and veg, buy a fruit/veg juicer, cut out dairy and meat. eat fruit " as you go", in the morning/afternoon, and veg/seeds/grains in the evenings. within days, you will notice your increased enrgy levels, lift of depression, better sleep etc and will be happier overall. best of luck, its like drugs. if you relapse it means starting again.

maybe a grapefruit breakfast or something acidic, then a apple a hour or so later, then a hour later a bannana. then a couple hours later veg, carrot/celery whatever you like, stick it in a juicer for a quick nutritious meal.
