So I live in Mississippi and I need inpatient detox for meth addiction. The problem is all the places I call say there is no withdrawal therefore they won't accept me. I am aware that there is no physical withdrawal like there would be from other drugs but my mental health gets really bad when detoxing. Has anyone been through this and could point me in the right direction?

I don’t know of any inpatient places but I have had to detox from meth a few times alone before going to rehab.

I could never do it cold turkey even though the worst of it is over in about 5 days. I found the best way to do it is with a combination of diazepam (valium) and an anti-psychotic like seroquel or abilify. You don’t need particularly big doses of either in order to pass through the 5 days in a chilled out haze. There is actually scientific literature on the comedown benefits of an anti-psychotic

You also need to eat a lot of quality protein and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid alcohol as it will make the anxiety worse and disrupt your sleep. If possible soak up sunlight and fresh air as much as you can. Light exercise helps.

if you can access everything mentioned here, doing it alone at home will be more pleasant than being in an institution anyway.

Good luck

I can't do it at home because of the way detoxification affects my mental health. I have 2 children at home and I don't want them to see me that way

Is there anyone who could help you take care of them? Don't you think that they should be taken care of by others if you're actively using? Maybe even just on a temporary basis?

Do you have a diagnosed mental illness? If so, you could consider an inpatient stay at more places.

I’ve experienced similar reactions when I went to rehab for various drugs not worth mentioning right now, if your not coming off a full fledge IV heroin habit (which I’ve done..) or an alcoholic/benzo fiend they don’t take you seriously in the slightest.

Not sure if this is the best idea but you could lie about which drugs you use? Once your in there less likely to kick you to the curb, especially if your symptoms are visible. For me, it became pretty obvious 24hrs in that I needed to be there.

Maybe if you can find the right things to self-medicate your withdrawal with, you could check into a hotel somewhere for 5 nights. That would get you past the worst of it and get you clear of your family seeing your condition?

If it has cable it’ll be more pleasant than a detox unit anyway. Possibly cheaper too.

Just a thought. All the best and good luck.
