Three professors and and two employers have called me out on falling into microsleeps. They can happen even when I'm well rested.

I don't sleep for as long as I used to, in fact I'm not able to sleep for more than 8-9 hours usually. That began when I was working 9-5 and I'd always wake up an hour before my alarm. I know people tend to need less sleep as they mature and I'm 21 now, but I'm still falling asleep during the day even when I sleep as much as I can. I'll often wake up in the morning, and try ot go back to sleep unable to. The problem isn't that I'm not dedicating enough time to sleep . I often fall asleep when I'm bored and when I'm reading. I read to get myself to sleep at night.

Because of this I'm going to need some sort of stimulant. I really don't like the side effect profile of amphetamines with dopamine down regulation and all.

Studies say caffeine has some effect on dopamine too. I was addicted to caffeine during my freshman year of high school, typically drinking two red bulls a day. I got awful headaches when I stopped.

Has anybody had good experiences with B vitamines and if so which combinations would you recommend? Anything else that isn't addictive and doesn't downregulate neurotransmitters?

if you wanna go the vitamin b route just get the bottle that says " Vitamin B Complex" or something similar and it has all b vitamins in them in doses enough to boost your energy somewhat. You'd be better off drinking a 5hr energy IMO.. i know its basically all b vitamins with a little caffeine but the vitamin doses are a lot higher than in the b complex tabs. Sorry i don't have a perfect answer for you.. i was gonna say DMAA or ephedrine but those run on different receptors in the brain which you said you don't want to use. Goodluck!

I used to have the same problem as you. Regardless of the amount of sleep I would get during the night, I would still be kinda tired throughout the day. I was able to fall asleep at any point in time and I often did so out of boredom or when the opportunity presented itself. I found that a combination Green Tea Extract and B Vitamins worked wonders. Now I have plenty of energy throughout the day. I'm not tired all of the time anymore and I have an increased motivation to do tasks. Also exercise increases energy levels, along with the obvious health benefits.

i was going to recommend adderall or dexedrine for some weekend fun, as they are not TO addictive in moderate doses (30mg, maybe re-dose once after a few hours with 15mg more), but since you are not interested in the functions of amphetamines, maybe give Ritalin (i believe the actual drug is called Methylphenidate) a try. Or if you have no friends with ADD that are willing to give you a couple out of the goodness of their heart of course :P, you could try an actual legal version of it that is a "research chemical", i believe, called ethylphenidate. This is just a some how combined version of ritilin, and ethyl alcohol, that actually makes it more potent, but i don't believe it is banned (yet). Apparently Methylphenidate actually mixes well with alcohol and makes it even more euphoric, so this would ethylphenidate will knock out two birds with on stone! You won't get drunk off the amount of ethyl in the molecule, but it should increase the euphoric effects.

As for a pick me up during the day, i recommend maybe just getting some coffee and brew 2 cups at home with your breakfast, drink 1 there and then maybe bring a thermos with you have have the other at lunch time.

I find caffeine to be a real nice wake me up in the morning, and im 99.999% sure it does not effect dopamine at all actually, because it doesn't cross the BBB. (if I remember correct)

I don't see much harm in a cup or two of joe a day during the work week, but i guess if you had "horrible withdrawals" from it when you quit in highschool, maybe it just isn't for you.

But me personally, i keep it a weekday drink just to get me going and never drink it on the weekend, and have yet to notice any negative or adverse effects (other than maybe such subtle ones i don't notice)

of course stay awake from cocaine, meth, and all the other random stimulant research chemicals we know almost nothing about (mephedrone, mdpv, etc). If you want to stay away from the harmful ones that is :P

You are wanting to find a drug to go with social drinking and partying on the weekend correct? That allows you to have energy throughout the night?

EDIT: Upon reading this thread, maybe ethylphendiate isn't such a great idea after all.

Read the thread - he wants a stimulant for weekdays.

Caffeine is essentially your only option. Methylphenidate comes a close second. Both can cause you to get pretty washed out if you use them regularly but shouldn't cause permanent long term effects if used in moderation.

Avoid amphetamines (Adderall), ephedrine, and research chemicals.

sorry yes my answer for that was caffeine then. I don't recommend daily Methylphenidate use.

Vitamins and antioxidants are the only 'harmless' stimulants, although I imagine you can get dependent on them as well. Look up Alpha Lipoic Acid and other energizing supplements. IDK if this is allowed (it's not illegal and I'm not trying to 'advertise', just recommend), but a good source for vitamins that my family and I use is Life Extension. They have a few energy supplements... and even as a cokehead, I can testify, THEY WORK.

Don't get on amps, your tolerance will just go up and your health decline over time. Really try out the vitamin route as HdoubleOdeezy suggested.

In Australia i can buy ampules of vit b..With all the vit bs in it and i can give myself an IM in the arse any old time i feel like it...We dont need a script/rx either...Possible you have similar?

Otherwise energy drinks??? i personally have never had em..Also try the health food store near you...A good google search will show you plenty about improving your energy...My opinion though, when/if you find a product that tickles your fancy, do a google search on it and find some reviews..NOT reviews by the company selling it but reviews from like normal people...Thats what i do when i find something i think sounds too good to be true...Check online..

I find that eating whole grains, plenty of protein (30-40g/meal), and good fats do a great job of giving me loads of energy. Maybe try modifying certain life habits before jumping into the world of stimulants. Good meals should be eaten every 4 hours to keep metabolism and energy levels at optimum levels.

I find just one day of eating only shitty food (refined carbs, sugar, animal fats, no protein) has me feeling like crap for the rest of the day.

Op i have just reread you initial post...I think you should get your bloods done...If you are supposedly sleeping 8-9 hours and you still feel like your tired, there may be a deficiency somewhere..Thats plenty of sleep..Also did you know that too much sleep is bad for you?...True dude...Makes you feel tired!..I was a night shift worker for 8 years with a baby...I started work at 1am and finished at 8am...Sometimes it was midnight to 10am...I did this for 8 years straight only taking new years day and xmas day off...I was very sleep deprived with a baby also..
1. See Dr get blood test done..
2. try sleeping for less time.
3. see Dr and get sleep tests done...Rule out "sleep apnea" ( Fuck im a bad speller) ( I make a terrible teachers aide!)
Wake up and make your first activity invigorating..Like a tepid shower..Or a jog..
Just a thought dude...

I wound change your diet and exercise. It will change everything. Find out what your energy is ying or yang and adjust accordingly. As far as sleep. If you want to change see a holistic or chinese doctor. Western medicine still can not solve this problem. If you want to sleep without drugs you have to change your goals, move towards exercise or a (dare I say it) vegan or vegetarian diet. but if you still want to be on drugs and sleep well, this is not the place to find those answers, they are everywhere.

The only "harmless" stimulants would be to utilize moderation with gentle supplements like caffiene and healthier things like antioxidants, vitamins, and holistic/eastern medicine like the poster above me mentioned, is great! But you must make sure that it's okay with your doctor, make sure to tell him or her all of the supplements your taking even the natural ones.

Teas can also be very helpful.

The classic stimulants, the amphetamines are the last thing you wanna resort to, if at all. Although they aren't very bad with you, it's much worse for you than natural remedies. Also, diet and exercise plays one of the biggest parts, more important than taking pills.

Try eating better (vitamins from food do you better). Maybe a sleeping pill. Perhaps you aren't getting enough rest though you spend many hours "sleeping." I know I would sleep for as many as 14 hours when I worked 3rd shift and never felt rested. I've heard bad shit about Nuvigil so watch out if you go that route. Your best bet is caffeine and nicotine (hopefully an e-cig). There are also herbal supplements out there. I can only recommend gingko.

I'm in a similar situation to yourself and I definitely recommend going to the doctors and having a blood test done, for your own peace of mind. I was tested for thyroid function, diabetes and a whole host of other stuff.

Luckily, nothing came back, and after a long sit down with my doctor and a good cry I was put on citalopram, as I was depressed at the time anyway - ironically these made me more sleepy, but I saw a definite improvement in my mood, and was able to sleep through the night without waking up 4 or 5 times.

8 months down the line, i'm off the meds and my sleep is definitely improved a bit, as I only get up once or twice in the night now, but I still get sleepy during the day sometimes. However, getting a better quality sleep, albeit less of it has definitely improved my wakefulness. Oh, and I'm a hardcore tea junkie too. I won't go anywhere in the morning without having two pints of the stuff :D

You might want to try Modafinil (provigil):

In the United States, modafinil is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration only for the treatment of narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea and shift work sleep disorder. In some countries, it is also approved for idiopathic hypersomnia (all forms of excessive daytime sleepiness where causes can't be established). The usual prescribed dosage for these disorders is 200mg once a day (less commonly, 100 to 400mg/day in one or two doses).
For conditions other than shift work sleep disorder, modafinil is normally taken in one dose in the morning or in two doses in the morning and at midday. It is generally not recommended to take modafinil after noon: modafinil is a relatively long-acting drug with a half-life of 15 hours, and taking it during the later part of the day carries a risk of sleep disturbances.[32]

I've taken Modafinil and it is definately a unique stimulant. It's very smooth, and not really comparable to Dextroamphetamine. It provides a pleasant mood lift, but it's not that addicting at all, and there's no crash or edginess when taken responsibly.

Serious? well blow me, i had no idea they would be dependency causing...

lmao don't listen to that guy... they are not going to make you dependent, or even psychologically "addicted".

I pretty much guarantee you won't notice any effects from them and they just work over time. It's not like if you forget to take your vitamins and pomegranite juice one morning, your gonna feel like shit all day...

some people seriously take the "you can be addicted to any drug" to far. Are you really going to say taking a multi vitamin and drinking some juice is addicting lmao?...

^ I can't find anything about mucuna pruriens being an overall CNS stimulant. Just sexual stimulant, quite a different thing.

There aren't many safe stimulants for long term use. It is their essence, since they overclock all bodily functions, there is always price to pay. I like to think about it as oveclocking processor in computer heh. If you run it at higher frequency than intended, it will eventually damage itself.

You say you sleep well, maybe you don't eat well. That's extremely important. So is exercising. For first few weeks it might make you even more tired but your body will quickly adapt and the more tired you will be physically, the better you'll feel mentally the next day as blood circulation will improve.

If these aren't relevant, caffeine is all I would recommend.. I drink about 3-4 coffees a day
