Long term opioid use and GI issues

I'm wondering if anyone has seen studies done on this topic as I'm having trouble finding any. From anecdotal reports of others as well as my own experiences, I am looking to see if there is any evidence to support the idea that long term opioid use could weaken the GI system and lead to GI disorders. Most of what I find is related to opioid effects on the GI system during usage, not after discontinuing usage.

I've often wondered if chronic opiate use correlates with an increase risk of colon cancer since the colon is exposed to waste that moves considerably slower. Dunno if its possible, but it wouldn't surprise me.
