hey ok so just a quick cap of my tabacco use. 14-16, smoked occasionly. 16-17 not at all. then from 17-20 (now), ive gone through stages smoking half a pack a day for a couple of weeks, not using for a bit then on a big night out ill get a pack.. ive never been full on addicted, as i only smoke socially and have never let myself smoke alone, and now days i am only having around four or five smokes a week which are normally after a big sesh with mates or when high on something (not including spinning weed which is prob smoked 5 days per week.

anyway so i know quite a bit about tobacco addiction, why its so addictive and how people complain about physical and mental withdrawals when trying to quit.. alone i NEVER crave cigarettes, i mean never ever, but with friends occassionly i will get those infamous nicotine cravings.. i can ignore them, and my way to avoid them is to put them in the same category as being tired and hungry (i.e, i can ignore them, but things would be a little more comfortable if i was to have a ciggy).

anyway my main question is physical and mental withdrawals. ive smoked enough in the past and probably still enough today to be 'addicted' in some sense and technically i still smoke enough to maintain slight addiction. what exactly are the physical withdrawal effects and what mental effects might these cause? i only ask because every few days i go through an hour or two of being 1/10-5/10 anxious, and is probably more associated with weed+other drug use, but was wondering if stopping smoking ciggies altogether could possibly stop or at least reduce these 'episodes'? they arent life disrupting, in fact at worst i would describe them as annoying/irritating, but its just a question that pops up in my mind now and then...

btw, im not some super strong willed guy who is somehow invulnerable to addiction, im with the worst of them when it comes to marijuana use, but somehow ive always thought of tobacco and most other drugs in a somewhat different light to weed+other things im addicted too(video games would be one of them lol)

Using cigs does not make you anxious. Quite the opposite. Withdrawing? I can only go on my own experience of quitting after a 33 year pack a day habit and I had no probs withdrawing at all. Its mind over matter.

If you have anxiousness problems they are very possibly related to your grass use. Thats one that a lot of people dont realise. Many people talk weed up as if its some harmless thing but the truth is far different, depending on useage and of course everyone is different. But its worth considering.

MazDan is right, cigarettes aren't causing you anxiety it is possibly related to your other drug use.

WD effects of smoking can include some anxiety, weight gain, cravings, restlessness, that sort of thing.

oh yeah dw if u read my post properly i already realise the effects of marijuana WD and if i felt like it wsa unbearable i would stop, but people talk about oh cigarettes are so hard to quit bla bla well what exactly is so hard to stop them if its just mind over matter? i mean even weed has annoying WD effects like trouble sleeping so i feel like smoking, and ive been smoking cigarettes for years and not only do they not get you high i can go without them easily

i was addicted too methamphetamine for 3 years, iv also been addicted too cigarettes for about 7 years, i was also addicted too weed for 3 years. I qiut meth and weed but i cannot qiut smoking ciggi's. I think ciggi's from my expierience is the hardest too qiut out of the lot of them for sure. Iv now been one and a half years without meth or weed apparently from what iv heard meth is the worst but i found that easy too qiut. I am pretty surprized too here that you can go off and on with ciggi's i dream of having that will power or that controll or what ever it is you want to call it.

Maybe some things are harder for some and easier for others but whats easy for you may be hard for me?

I have no science to back that up..........just wonderin.

yes most likely your right, but its pretty interesting that a hard drug i found easier too qiut than a drug that almost everyone i know does (ciggi's). My mate goes on and off ciggis i find it amazing. anyways i think were getting off topic here nicotine withdrawals i have no idea about because the day i started i never looked back so sorry i cant contribute anything helpfull to this thread :(

There are studies that show cigarettes are harder to give up for some people then heroin and cocaine. Maybe it's a mix of their pharmacological action, their availability, price and relative lack of stigma that combine to create something that has a subtle effect but is incredibly addictive. I know that I can't even think of quitting smoking I am in love with it too much. :D

^I'd say cigs are also harder to quit because they aren't as life altering as other addictions can be. I've never heard of cigarettes taking over someone's life, which makes the incentive to quit far smaller.

^ Or should we say, they often aren't life altering until it's tragically far too late?

I am so hooked on cigarettes, my morning ritual is a cup of coffee and a couple of cigarettes to go along with Bitches Brew, usually gets me going though I'm sick right now and it's not quite the pick-me-up it normally is.

^True, the health risks are well known. It's just rare that I hear of someone choosing to stay at home smoking, rather than go to work.
