I've been doing some research and have not found anything on the long-term effects of taking chromium polynicotinate. I've found plenty on the long term risks of taking chromium picolinate, but I'm not taking that form.

I'm taking Solgar brand chromium polynicotinate, 200mcg. It is niacin-bound chromium.

I'm just wondering if there are any long-term risks associated with taking this.

Note: I am not taking it because of diabetes--I get low-blood sugar "rages" that are difficult if not impossible to control and have put strains on relationships. Taking chromium once a day has helped dramatically. Also, I have been tested for diabetes two or three times now, and each time it has come back negative.

From a quick glance online, it looks like it may be less risky, but there isn't a whole lot of research on either end. Have you been tested for chromium deficiency? Chemically, chromium is crazy reactive, and is highly mutagenic/carcinogenic in most (but not all) of its oxidation states.

Nope, I have not been tested for a chromium deficiency--Seems kind of silly to go get tested for it now... :-/

I do plan on asking my doctor about it when I visit her in Jan. for a PPD.
