I'd be interested in hearing some information on the long term effects of ketamine. Looking online a lot of the information varies and would just like to hear the straight up truth. Reason I'm asking is I just want to see what effect it's likely to have on me and whether I should quit while I'm ahead - well not quit, maybe consider a break. Going to begin spitting the drip though finally.

My kidneys are starting to be sore and much more 'noticeable' a lot of the time. Also getting mild cramps after using small amounts, I'm going to be having another big session next week so going to try and lay off it for the next few days but I'm expecting k cramps big time afterwards. I've heard Cranberry Juice is good for this? Is there anything else I can be taking e.g. vitamins/certain foods/drinks to help prevent these cramps and other side effects or at least just to balance things out a bit and try and make some form of effort to keep my organs good. I think my memory has got a lot more hazier too, but I'm not 100% sure on this, does this stop if usage cuts down/stops? It's taken 3 years of taking ketamine for me to start using frequently enough to cause this and only began experiencing the pains a few months back. Also stomach issues but my stomach has been giving me trouble for a few years and normally sort it with omeprazole.

Anyone here a frequent user and tried to gain lots of muscle at the same time or keep a good fitness level? Was this possible?

Any information/experiences/reports from people who used heavily and frequently are appreciated, along with just plain up facts as I'm not too knowledgeable on it all.

Also both my nostrils are fucked and my sense of smell is starting to get fairly weakened - reminds me of when I was taking lots of mephedrone. Should I consider making up a saline solution spray?

Edit: Forgot to mention I only sniff ketamine. I'd say I use at least 2-3x a week when thinking about it but the amounts varies from a gram to big binges. This is only within the past 6-7 months. Before I would've used a few times a month and the odd big binge due to availability/quality.

The long term effects of ketamine are pretty individually dependent. Some people get cramping and pains if they use ketamine too frequently, others can binge almost every day and the first thing that goes is their nose/veins instead. The longer you use K though the more likely it is you'll have problems of some sort, either psychological or physical.

Spitting the drip out doesn't really matter. As ketamine causes cramping and bladder damage even in IV users I don't think the extra norketamine is even going to make a difference. The only reason to spit it out is if it upsets your stomach.

If your nose is fucked and you are starting to get cramps, it would be wise to stop for a month or more and let your body re-equilibrate. You're seeing warning signs now.

Is there not anything out there though that is good for the likes of my kidneys or other organs affected by ketamine though? Like the cranberry juice? All seemed to be 'myths' when reading about it elsewhere.

i get super wired/jittery several days after each use these days. I think it is some sort of withdrawal. the effects are not enjoyable either anymore

Although like seiko says I don't know how much you're going to get from starting this thread, I really like your idea in doing so :)

It's not ketamine (okay, so yea it's a totally different drug, but they're both ndma antagonists :D) but I've found piracetam and like drugs to prevent a lot of negative side effects when taking sub-anethetic dosages long term (same applies to similar dosages of MXE, I've just never taken ketamine for what I've call "long term"). I had to take a lot of it for a long time to notice much/any effects though. This, alas, may also be purely individual specific though.

By long term, do you mean like you took a bunch of ketamine for a week once in college and are worries about any effects forty years down the road, or like taking it every day for twenty years? I've know two people who have used ketamine daily (or almost daily) for decades and don't seem to have any problems... Hell, I've known one person who used DXM (higher dosages) on a daily basis for over 18 months without any obvious problems (yet, hehe)...

To be fair, I've also known people who have used ket/dxm and had health (physical as well as psychological) problems as a result, so ymmv. Very individual specific, as has been stated. Probably only useful advice I can think of is that moderation is key to all things...

(what about being moderate in moderation though?! that always got me...)

use infrequently.

in all seriousness long term effects I experienced were feelings of isolation, dissociation, deja vu, and an urge to do more. that coupled with a tolerance from hell meant a pretty expensive habit. plus when I couldnt find k I substituted with coke, which lead to a whole new set of problems.

as far as physical problems go they seem to be few and far between. there's reports of bladder damage, and supposedly something called olneys lesions. I believe in the bladder problems, the lesions I'm still on the fence about. I haven't really experienced any physical symptoms aside from weight loss. ketamine isn't a safe drug so don't be fooled, but compared to many other drugs it seems to be rather benign when it comes to acute physical damage.

injuring yourself while in a hole, that's a whole different story.

Olneys lesions have never been observed in humans or primates.

The bladder damage from ketamine (not kidneys) is generally irreversible. Cranberry juice won't do a lot because it's just a mild antibacterial, it does nothing to prevent inflammation.
I don't know where people get the idea that ketamine damages the gut, kidneys, or other organs, because I haven't heard a lot of evidence (in medical journals) for that.

On the talk of kidneys etc, I don't know what it is but it's a real weird pain in both my sides that would be round about where my kidneys would be or something else. Heard of other people who use even more than me mention kidneys also. It's definitely brought on by ketamine use anyway, gets worse afterwards every time but now it's not really going away as much and getting worse. Needing to piss more often and I've mentioned elsewhere on BL but didn't get much response on it after k usage piss can smell, takes a long time to change from yellow too but this seems to be dependent on batches and I wonder if there may be cutting involved but it's odd as the k is standard gear.

Wont do a lot as in not worth spending a few quid on? I spend plenty of money on k so I'm willing to put some money towards other things half the price to prevent any damage.

This thread should be good for seeing people's accounts of frequent k usage so might gain some insight on other organs being affected.

Anyway think I'm going to keep using till next week (try and at least keep off it tonight even though it's a Fri(k)day. Then have a mini binge and see about taking a month off. Also going to spit the drip and see if it makes any difference if I can remember.

from about octobre to beginning of jan I binged k relatively frequently about once a week, or when I didn't binge it I did small amounts like 2 or 3 times a week. I don't know if its just the power of suggestion, but from being a person that pees like once or twice a day, I went to peeing about 3-5 times a day. Anyway I'm taking a looooooooooon break from k. It has the potential to be a very nasty drug, and for me at least was very psychologically addictive. The last time I did k, a week ago on friday (after a month break) wasn't too pleasant so luckily I have no desire to start up again any time soon.
