livid

one of my family members impersonated me in an attempt to access one of my accounts and withdraw money. i am so fucking angry right now that i don't even know what to think.

if they are local... break a window.

if they aren't local... well, two options:
get a key logger embedded into an attachment
pay someone local to break one of their windows with a brick + note.

Is it time to change up the accounts? A good question would be how the f*** did they know any of the information?

I hope this isn't a reoccurring thing... BTW I am really excellent at vindictive paybacks--- haha let me know how i can help. :)

This has happened in my family too - to my grandmother. My uncle and aunt were the culprits. They have felonies on their records now. Identity theft is a lot more serious after the passing of the Patriot Act. No need for subterfuge or vigilante justice when you have the FBI. You can work with the US Attorney to get it prosecuted aggressively, and give your truthful testimony at trial if you want to stick it to them.

File a police report where you live now - go to the station and ask to speak with the senior detective on duty. The process starts there. Close all your accounts and give your banks/CC companies the police report number. Make sure you keep a copy to the report as you'll probably need to send it to your financial institutions. And google identity protection services. I use Lifelock.

wingingwines, they had access to my info because up until now i kept a backup of all important data in my parents safe. i really never thought someone would try to use it against me.

mariposa, right now i do not want to take any action beyond what the financial people suggest (which right now is to wait for their investigation). i am not in the mood to cause a giant family feud over this. but thanks <3

the saddest thing about being rolled by the ones you love is having to keep your end of the morality bargain for the sake of harmony and not stooping to their level. take care ac. <3
