Livid @ Crass Commercialization of Psychedelic Experience by Third Wave’s Paul Austin

News is more broadly published, today (I’d rued the notion, when I first read of it, some weeks ago), that Third Wave’s Paul Austin is charging $127 for a Skype session wherein he guides people who are actively micro-dosing. Such a shame, I feel. I suppose the one good aspect of prohibition of all these years has been that LSD and other stuff hasn’t been successfully pharmaceuticalized (post-Sandoz "Dilysid," anyway) nor subject to crass commercialization and exploitation (of what seems a serendipitous gift from God). Talk about mixed blessings…

Naturally, micro-dosing does mean sub-perceptual-change doses, rather than the full-blown experience which makes for the name attached, but still...

And, of course, here we are, 500 years since The Reformation, who’s very progenitor was, himself, a mixed bag of blessings…

But, of course, as anything which promotes the Kingdom ofGod is aligned with God’s purposes, I guess I can appreciate Martin Luther…and Paul Austin…warts and all…

I hope you all are having a good day, week, and 500th-Anniversary-of-The-Reformation month.

I don't know who this guy is and personally I think microdosing is highly likely to be placeboey bullshit, but what exactly is it about this that bothers you? People need to earn money to live and obviously this guy thinks his time and knowledge is worth money, and if people are paying for it, then he is right.

Just because psychedelics aren't legal doesn't mean they haven't been commercialised already, it's not like LSD is just being handed out for free. People have profited from it from the beginning. Welcome to Western Capitalism. Everything has a price.

I honestly think it's a pretty good idea, but only if someone was an expert on psychedelic therapy and could actually guide someone through the psychedelic experience via skype. Obviously it wouldn't be the same as in person, but would probably still be very helpful. Also, considering how long a trip can last, $100+ doesn't seem that unreasonable if you're going to be guiding them the entire time.

Of course, everything is commercialized... I simply come at use of psychedelics from a strictly religious angle, that is, that it is not to get high or party but to praise the almighty God. I realized that people come at psychedelics from every sort of non-belief and believing area on the planet, but, being of the Christian persuasion, I cannot help but believe that God provided these substances for his own praise, and while I'm a narrowly defined that as in that of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, God Eternal, Jesus Christ, I accept that others are approaching this from another angle. As Albert Hofmann believed that the use of psychedelics was, ultimately, a spiritual matter, I, too, feel that it is wrong to withhold this viscerally awe inspiring experience from anyone, so, in the past, when I had LSD, I would give it to people who asked me.

Yes, and quite honestly, I don't know how he is doing it... As microdosing does not involve a full-blown psychedelic experience, my guess is that he is more likely having people reflect on the experience and giving feedback, guiding them in their daily use of LSD, while working or some such.

There is a group in California that is attempting to certify people who will be the coming wave of so-called certified psychedelic therapist, but I don't know if this guy has partaken of that training. I do not think he has, but simply has the experience of microdosing, himself. I also have that experience and have found it to be useful, however, the full-blown psychedelic experience is of course overwhelming, and that is which I want all people to experience.
