Legal drugs cause most Melbourne overdoses - AAP, 08.05.2012

I mostly use prescription opioids and sometimes benzos. Earlier this year I had a speed OD as I usually never use it and went through 1 gram of rock in 8 hours. Severe heart arrythmia and blood pressure crisis....nasty shit.....gf called ambo and I got stabilized in the ER. Bloody bitch of a head doc didn't want to give me strong pain meds when I came down......man, my entire body was aching, heart hurting and she didn't get the morphine IV going. I almost got into a verbal fight with her......She said to me:" If you don't wanna be in pain stop taking meth!" i.e. you are a druggie and don't deserve pain relief - SUFFER!!! Unbelievable really.

^ you actually expected them to administer a morphine drip for a meth comedown?
really?? 8)
i imagine that would put quite a strain on your heart. it's their job in ER to keep you alive, not to ease you off a drug binge (not that i am suggesting you called an ambulance for that reason).
i'm pretty sure people that are in emergency for overindulging in recreational substances rarely get treated with the painkillers of their choice. emergency room doctors have heard it all before, have no doubt.
even if your condition warranted such medication, you probably had a mark against your name to begin with -
"i've had too much meth - i'm in pain, i need morphine"
"sure you do, buddy"

I wouldn't think morphine would be the first drug of choice to treat a meth overdose either... I'd think they'd go for drugs to stabilize the heart and blood pressure, and probably a benzodiazepine to help ease the effects more. As well as an antipsychotic if there are psychotic symptoms present, of course.

They gave me loads of diazepam, 2 Panadeine Fortes and 1 Endone....and I still felt shit. It was my own fault - granted. Won't touch that stuff ever again....speed and ice......uuurrghhh. Stick to my friendly opiates :)

I'm just wondering when they receive call outs for cannabis usage, usually those are the people who have never tried any drugs before and by having much they think something is majorly wrong? I mean surely an experienced user who is overly stoned wouldnt call an ambo. Thoughts?
