Legal Countries

Here in Seattle (WA, USA) everything is pretty liberal, even the cops. Washington State passed a law officially declairing that possesion and use of pot "is of the lowest priority", this goes for the cops and the courts. Cops don't go out looking for people smoking (or even dealing) weed. If they happen to see you they will check you out and see if you have any harder drugs. I've been stopped a few times and the cop just asked what drugs we had and left wihout taking the weed. Some friends have been arrested for larger amounts (over an ounce) but the courts decided not to charge them.

However, this is deffiniately not how the US is in general. I think only about 6-8 have legalized medical weed (WA, CA, CO, some others) and medical weed is still illegal federally (class I, no medical use). If the rest of the world wants legal pot then the US is going to have to be more like it's most liberal places and at least acknoledge that it's not a big deal.

In Cambodia, you can buy marijuana sprinkled on your pizza. They call it "Happy Herbs Pizza." My sister tried it once and says that it's the real deal.

Actually, Morrison's Lament, weed is legal in Denmark - but only in one very special area called Christiana.

A bunch of hippies moved out there to live on boat-houses (not the kind you'll see in American harbors/rivers... real floating glass/panel houses) in 1971. They had a few clashes with LEO's but, after awhile, were dubbed a "social experiment" and left alone.

Cannabis is legal there... hard drugs are not. Free-love baby.

Look 'em up, they're awesome. ^_^

I live in New England, and have an address up north where weed is legal for medicne. I have a card to purchase, but the quality is not close to what I can buy or grow. But hey it's cheaper and it works so why not.

I have taken 9 trips to Amsterdam, and they have it right. They tolerate weed there, and there are even places that will test your drugs. I have had E and coke tested there. They take a very small piece of your E and a very little bit of your coke and tell you if it's good or if it has crap in it. I was there for 4 months working, and was able to get a few things other then weed, scchrooms and hash. I felt weird having it tested, but a lot better once I knew it was good.

I was talked to the police out there and asked them what it was all about, why no arrests. They told me (now I was smoking a spliff at the time outside the Grasshopper) that weed is not a problem, hard drugs are the problem, and theft of bikes. They said as long as no dis-respects anyone, marijuana smokers have no worry of being harrashed.

In a short setence, don't be stupid and smoke all you want in A'dam.

While in Thailand I stayed at a place where weed, mushrooms and even ecstasy were on the menu. Mushroom shakes and omelettes were available in many restaurants as well. All these drugs are illegal in Thailand and penalties are harsh but no-one seems to mind as long as you don’t carry any on you or do them outside of these restaurants.

In Cambodia and Laos you can also buy ‘happy’ food from many places. Usually marijuana but sometimes mushrooms. This includes the well known ‘Herb’s Happy Pizza’ in Cambodia’ mentioned earlier which contains weed. I know that at Herb’s, the pizza costs the same wether you order it ‘happy’ or not. They are also very strong and it would take a brave person to ask for a ‘very happy’ pizza. Weed is offered to you in the street everywhere and particularly in Laos, opium as well. Again, these drugs are very illegal in Laos and Cambodia but they are still very openly sold to tourists.

Vietnam is not as open as it’s neighbours but you will still be offered weed fairly often while in the street and in the north, opium as well.

In all of the above countries, drugs only appear to be offered to tourists. Although I’m sure that if a local wanted some they wouldn’t have to try very hard :-)

In my part of Australia (Tasmania) it is totally illegal. The first few times that you are caught with possession or use, you can expect a warning or compulsory attendance of drug diversion classes. After that probably fines even jail. You can also be fined for possession of a smoking device (such as a bong).

xtc-couple....it's like that in the whole of the netherlands, not only amsterdam. But also here the law is changing mostly because there are some cannabis problems in the south of the netherlands. (amsterdam is nothing in cannabis compared to the south of holland)

Unfortunately, that's not the case anymore. The cops cracked down on them pretty hard last year and the open cannabis/shrooms market is completely shut down. After that the smokers started "hash clubs" all over Copenhagen which is alot harder for the cops to control.

Damn Shex, really? Just in the last year? That's some crap. I remember being awestruck, admiring their homes.

Yeah, It's been there for 31 years as a freetown but now the authorities wanted to stop the illegal (since Christiania is part of Denmark, it's not really legal) drug flow over there. They tore down the hash shops with bulldozers, went in with 200+ heavy equipped police officers and shut it all down. There was a documentary on it just a month ago on swedish television.

I think the government wants to build new houses over there and let "normal" people move in. Really sucks. All it does is spread the sale of cannabis all over the place and those who sell it there certainly have harder drugs to offer.

Sign the petition here if you wish to save it:

Yep, its a real pitty all that happened. I had a lot of love for Christiania. I lived in Denmark for a year and up until March the 14 (the date the major raid happened), I used to spend many care free days inside Christiania, smoking away.

I still read the danish news and apparently there is a move to sub-divide the place up and build nice new units. Personally I think this is shit because its a cultural landmark in Denmark, not to mention that it "was" the biggest tourist attraction until it was shut down.

My personal experience with cannabis in Denmark was that it was pretty easy to get (this is hash mind you), was of high quality and generally pretty socially acceptable. Every concert I ever there involved a lot of people smoking joints and drinking huge amounts of tuborg!

Bevar Christiania!!
