Hello there.

After not being able to find very much good info on this on the internet, I figured I'd share my findings with you all.

I have been experimenting quite a bit the past month or so, trying to figure out nice legal relaxing ways to take the edge off after a long day at work.

One of the substances I procured was Lady Slipper root. I bought 200 ml of an alcoholic tincture, and 100 ml of a non alcoholic extract.

The reason I even came up with this idea, was because I read in an online experience that a small dose of this was "better than opium". In that report, the person claimed that a small dosage made into a tea got them as high as a kite, to the point where they were in couch lock.

I personally believe that person must have had a pipe burst in their house and had their water contaminated with a psychoactive substance, causing them to hallucinate the euphoria they were feeling. lol.

Of course this report intrigued me, considering I'm a huge fan of opiates, boasting that something is 'better than opium' is a huge statement to say the least. So I went online and bought 100 ml of a non alcoholic extract of lady slipper root. After much waiting, it finally came in the mail. Being nervous, I looked up the dosage online. After having difficulties understanding what any of the web pages were talking about, I just decided to take one small dropper full, and chased it with egg nog. (Sounds gross, but the thick density helps get rid of any and all bad flavors.)

It tasted quite odd, to be honest, the taste wasn't so bad, but the smell was awful. It smells like acrid chemicals, so the smell creates almost sort of a flavor of its own. I figured with such a strong smell, it must be capable of some interesting effects. However after an hour of waiting I felt nothing whatsoever. Soo, me being me, I took 3 more dropper fulls in a row. After another hour, nothing. Figuring it was a bust, I opened the bottle and drank half the contents. After an hour, I still felt nothing, asides from a little nauseated.

Feeling frustrated, I got an idea, and searched up online, alcohol extracts. After much searching I found an online vendor selling alcoholic tinctures. I later found out that apparently many alcohol free extracts out there are not very potent, and are of poor quality, and that alcoholic tinctures are much more potent. Harnessing the power of the plant.

Anyways, I ordered 200 ml. After much waiting again, I received my bottle in the mail. Being less nervous, I opened it and drank 1 dropper full, and chased it with egg nog. The taste was similar, however, it burned more going down, I can only assume because of the alcohol. After an hour? Still nothing. So I did the same thing, 3 more droppers, waited an hour, nothing. Again, I opened the bottle, and drank a large gulp. (keep in mind the recommended dose online is 1 dropper full). I think I felt a little bit of an effects this time, however, I'm almost certain it was from the alcohol in the tincture rather than the plant.

No body high, no euphoria. I have a feeling this plant is more of a non narcotic sleeping aid, and is not a good thing to abuse.

On another note, if you're curious, I tried plugging each extract as well. I highly suggest against this, even the non alcoholic extract was incredibly irritating to me. I was able to keep them both down (up/in/whatever you call it), but it was to no avail. No euphoria was achieved what so ever.

I did have a slightly easier time sleeping those nights than I usually do. i'll keep the bottle around for days when I am feeling like an insomniac. Otherwise, I'd say look elsewhere for your kicks. If kicks are what you are looking for.

"It reminded me quite a bit of the effects of opium, except stronger. I had been a bit dissapointed when I tried opium, but lady's slipper held every desirable effect I had heard of regarding opiates. Euphoria, analgesia, sedation. It also proved quite effective as a remedy for insomnia. As I lay blissed out on my bed, I sort of went into a trance, and must have fallen asleep because I didn't wake again until my alarm went off the next morning."

^ YA OK - haha that trip report does look promising, but glad to know that results may vary. In your research did you find anything regarding the psychoactive part of the plant/root? I'd be interested to know it's pharmacodynamics.

To be honest, no I did not.

I mean It's hard to tell. I have done quite a few psychedelics in the past, and as a result, I have HPPD, and have had it for some time. SO if there were any effects from the root, they must not have been very dramatic, as not being able to tell them apart from my HPPD.

All in all, this plant had little to no effect for me.

I read someones theory on a website suggesting that perhaps the person who posted the experience report I was referring to, had personal benefits to falsifying such a story. Perhaps they're a vendor of the plant, and sales were dropping? Who knows. All I know is I could get the same effects from eating some turkey.

Also, many websites state that an overdose of the plant may cause giddiness and hallucinations. It seems as if one person made up a theory, and every other website read it, copied and pasted it, and assumed it was the truth, without doing any actual research of their own.

To be honest, I think this thread is probably the best info you're going to find on this plant, at least when it comes to its effect on humans.

Edit
HOWEVER. I never tried eating the raw root. So if anyone else is willing to try that, please post your experience here. (the plant is endangered, so if you actually go out and find one in the wild, make sure not to kill the plant while harvesting. This can be accomplished by only taking a portion of the roots, and not all of them. I'm sure there's a proper process out there somewhere. Please do your research, they are a beautiful species and it would be sad to see them go extinct.)
