Hello all,

I just decided to finally sign-up at BL instead of lurking around without an account. I started on the forum Opiophile.org (RIP) and once it shut down I moved to an IRC channel that I've been on since but still miss some good ol forum talk.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and working my way into Nurse Practitioner (NP.). The bulk of my knowledgable is in mostly pharmaceuticals but I still have the abilities to research any other drugs.

A little background on me: started (ab)using drugs when I was around 15-16yrs old, and just like most, I was in a bad wreck and had multiple physicians writing me multiple scripts, back then it was easier and less work for a doctor to just write a script instead of prescribing PT (physical therapy) so that's what set my likings of drugs ablaze.

I started off screwing around with benzodiazepines (alprazolam, diazepam, clonazepam, and lorazepam.) After that I moved to opiates such as Vicodin and OxyContin, and from there on out its history. As of today I still use Buprenorphine and Lorazepam (for my anxiety) and I've successfully got my ass to focus on my schooling and got my LPN, then RN, and now my BSN and one day in the future I'll move up to NP.

I enjoy helping others so if anyone has any medical related questions I'll answer to my best ability, or if you have just a generic question about certain pharmaceuticals. I also have access to numerous books and online databases so if I don't know too much about a certain pharm. then I can easily look into it and do a bit of research if necessary for you.

Look forward to meeting many new people and making some new friends on this awesome community.

Hey welcome to Bluelight! I'm currently in the nursing program at my local community college and I want to work my way up to cardiovascular surgery. I was interested in being a pharmacy technician for a while but I think I'm just going to stick with nursing to save money, then work my way up.

Not sure what comes after being an RN, though, if I want to be a surgeon. Need more input on that.

I use benzos for my anxiety, I'm currently on Temazepam but it isn't doing anything for me. I used to be prescribed Xanax and Klonopin, they did the most for my anxiety. I used DXM a lot but I quit. I choose opiates as my favorite now. I used to be addicted to H but I quit cold turkey last year.

You seem like an interesting person so I'm looking forward to seeing you around the site!

I was a critical care nurse for nearly 25 years, mostly in coronary care. Find myself at the other end of the spectrum now, with 14 stents and having had a triple bypass a few years ago. New to this site myself.

Thank you sir, just to ask, why are you interested in getting your RN if you plan to go into Cardiovascular? I'm not super sure you'd even need an RN to get there, I might be wrong but I think it's 4 years undergrad, 4 years medical and 8 years of surgical residency, but if you have the commitment and focus to do it then go for it! I know a surgeon in who works in cardiovascular and he makes quite a nice salary (200k+/yr)

I've seen this so many times it's insane, if someone in the medical field doesn't fall ill they end up accidentally sticking themselves and get somewhat of a PTSD and cannot work anymore.

Thank you all for your warm welcomes. I look forward to many many conversations here!

Haha, thanks for the response, but I'm a miss. I've just heard that it's a good idea to have nursing on your background when going into a serious medical profession. If not nursing, what do you suggest I do? 4 years of undergrad as in pre reqs for med school?

I've always been interested in being a bedside or trauma nurse though. Very hands on.

Hmm. Lots to think about. I've seen salaries for cardiac surgeon go up to $500k.
