Kavanaugh sworn in

Trump supporters claim that the reason they love him is because he isn't a politician.

Well, neither is Kavanaugh. I guess they are happy?

They tried pointing out the things Kavanaugh has written in the past and what they might mean once he is confirmed. The problem is that his supporters actually think a justice serving the executive branch is a good thing. Also, the rampant anti-intellectualism spread by Trump and his base make it very difficult to debate anything worthwhile. While I don't think their method was effective or correct, it seemed like all they could do.
 
Yeah honestly, I'm pissed they tried so hard to stop him... it only engaged Trump's base more. The Dems had a clear lead in the polls only a month ago and now because white men everywhere are shitting their pants the polls show only a 2% lead. They shot themselves in the foot and I'm fucking pissed.


Stupid fucking democrat representatives... the whole party just needs a cleansing.

I thought the era of Trump was the end of the GOP. It turns out it might be the end of the Donkeys because they can't get over the fact that most people don't give a fuck about sexuality or gender.

i think that's a really ungenerous analysis.

his scripted stuff might be guilty, to some extent, of what you describe but these 'between the scenes' bits happen when the formal recording of the show has paused. they tend to be a little more extemporaneous, sincere and resonant. to me.

It may very well be ungenerous. I've never seen this fella before to appreciate his deep insights and solid foundations upon which he speaks. I also don't go to a comedy network for my news, nor opinions. This isn't a jab at you, please don't take it as such. It's an honest admission on my part of where I do, or do not, get my limited view of news from.

Then why weren't historical references of THAT the basis of the Democrats assault on Kavanaugh? Seems to me, if true, that'd be grounds for not voting for him. Speaking of which, aside from getting outraged at being on the defensive from multiple baseless claims of sexual assault, can you point me to some of these 'anger' episodes he is prone to? Or his history of blatant partisanship? I ask, because, from what I've seen of his background he's done work for both parties, and managed to rise the ranks of the judiciary because of his impartiality when it came to political parties. So, I'd really appreciate where you can educate me on how you are forming this opinion.

I think the entire system needs a cleansing, both sides and everything inbetween. I also struggle to reconcile Trump and Republicans. I don't think they like him upsetting DC Politics either, but it's not like they are going to side with the Democrats on anything - simply based on spite. But I see the Republicans quietly following in Trump's shadow - taking the waves he makes and riding them to where they get some of what they want, but staying at arm's length so as not to get caught in the Trump hate. I don't think they got what they expected in allowing him to win the party nomination. And to be honest, I like that aspect of shaking up the status quo as well.

I think tathra fumbled the FIFY. I think you are closer to it.

his anger was evident the entire time. It doesn't matter why you're there or what you're being accused of. You are conducting a job interview in front of the Senate. You want a seat on the most important court in the country. A lifetime appointment. Compose yourself. Answer the questions. Don't vomit out Clinton conspiracy theories. Don't display favoritism.

it is grounds not to vote for him. Many didn't.

Fair enough. I guess it's a little of both.

But any way you slice it, the Dems are losing votes because no one wants the main party platform to be centered around the single digit percentile of folks who don't conform to classical sexual identities.

Honestly, if there was a party entirely centered around nothing but legalizing weed, I think they would win the majority of votes in 2020 lol. And I think that says a lot about how disconnected both the GOP and Dems are. They cater to small lobbyist groups within their parties and ignore the needs of their true base of voters.
