Katrina = Cat.5 = Goodbye New Orleans

Wow! You never know when someone is posting close to you. I'm a UCONN student too, not at Storrs though. I was for a semester last year, but now I commute to the satellite schools.

Sorry for getting off-topic, just found that to be a surprise. :) I wonder if anyone who was effected by Katrina will be in any of my classes? Good to see UCONN doing this, I hope other schools do something similar.

What do Nagin's political affiliations matter? He's right in calling for a larger, better-structured effort at getting his citizens out of NOLA. If you're dying of thirst and all the cops point guns at you and roving gang members point guns at you would you really give a shit about the political affiliations of the guy who pulls you out of there? Worry about that when you're not fighting off death.

You never know, some half starved black guy might try to slang some pawt for food and water 8(

Anyone know why the DEA is there?

The mayor reported that drug use has been increasing in N.O. before Katrina. Now that there is no drug supply, the addicts are going crazy. Those are the majority of the people shooting other people apparently.

In NO? How are they handling security?

I can't imagine he'll be going anywhere near any of the "urban warfare" areas.

The secret service wouldn't let him even if he wanted to.

Yeah exactly, it would be stupid to go anyways.

I wasn't trying to bash Bush or anything, just wondering what they were doing for security. There's a number of crazed people with guns out there, and frankly they probably just don't give a fuck about anything right now.

If someone could take a shot at a helicopter trying to evacuate some people, I'm sure they could take aim at the president.

No, not yet!

I need more time in becoming sufficient with firearms. After seeing what could happen so quickly after a disaster, I think it best I invest in a good gun and maybe a bit of target practice.

Edit: This made sense before threads were merged together.

I was watching a documentary about the secret sercive with John Kerry, the podium he's giving his speech from would be bullet-proof, escape roots are planned incase anything goes wrong, dozens of agents watching for anything suspicious, they got their game-plan down.

I'll bet the Secret Service hasn't prepared for the posibility of starving AquaSnipers loaded up on looted pharmaceuticals and whiskey.

Really.

Pardon my ignorance of the mexico gulf area and the surrounding lands but was there any cities or towns that the actual cyclone went right over the top of and decimated? I only ask because all we are hearing about is NO and surely if there was a city that took the full force of the cyclone there would be utter destruction there too no?

Can anyone fill me in on this?

Cheers.
