Katrina = Cat.5 = Goodbye New Orleans

^^ What are you talking about? What are you even THINKING?

We were doing air-drops of supplies after the Tsunami in TWO days! It's been FIVE days now!

Do you really expect me to belive that there is no way the president could have the military take complete control of that city within hours? Are you trying to tell me that Bush couldn't be on TV right now saying, "I want EVERYONE who can help to help right now, we need your assistance Canada and NATO, thanks for the offer!"

Don't give me that bullshit man, "Just doesnt have the infrastructure to move fast."

WHY DID WE RE-ELECT A PRESIDENT BASED ON HIM PROVIDING HOMELAND SECURITY? WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY?!?! WHERE IS MY TAX MONEY GOING?!?!?!?!?!

Jesus christ, are you listening to yourself? Doesn't have the infrastructure! That's what the last 5 fucking years of Bushs entire life should have been about changing, it's what YOU always say he's doing for ME!

AHHH!!

I'd expect this kind of response if Yellowstone erupted or some other unforeseen disaster.. we KNEW this was coming, we watched it coming with our super high-tech equipment.. this was one of THREE.. that's right, THREE things listed as the most damaging things that could happen to the US years ago. How the hell can you justify this by saying, "that's just how it is.. no infrastructure.. can't actually hold someone accountable who has taken billions and billions and billions and put them into things with the word security and emergency in their name.. " and then we need them and it's not even there, there's nothing.. WHERE is there ANYTHING that Bush has done? The only federal assistance we are getting is FEMA and the national guard.

FEMA who you can watch interviews with the director on CNN and he doesn't even fucking know there are people at the convention center, he is LITERALLY being informed of the situation during the interview.

And the national guard.. the NATIONAL.. GUARD... did you hear that? NATIONAL... GUARD... One would assume this means they GUARD... the NATION.. right? No, they're in Iraq.. Sorry. It looks like someone forgot the National Guard is there to handle emergencies in our nation whereas regular army handles foreign affairs, and sent all of our.. national guards.. to Iraq.. Hm..

Now, what did you actually mean to say cause I KNOW it couldn't be what you accidently uttered above cause that would mean.. you're insane?

EDIT: Russia, Austrailia, UK, Honduras, Japan, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, United Arab Emirates have also offered assistance now. Still no word from Bush....

rowland, if terrorists released anthrax over New York today, do you think the response would be any different from New Orleans after the fact in terms of getting supplies in and setting up HAZMAT decontamination sites and all that?

Ok, so why are you supporting a president who is claiming to protect us from terrorism when he can't even protect us from a hurricane we knew about days in advance, had always feared hitting in this exact spot and knew what the damage would be like, and still hasn't started a major recovery process five days after...

The president is supposed to address us soon, and I predict he'll finally cave and accept assisance, but honestly I really don't give a fuck cause he's 5 days short and thinking of this as a political game.

I heard on FOX that one of the primary aims of Bush's visit to New Orleans, was to boost the morale of victims. :\

I also heard he was going to take an aeriel trip around the area. :\

Get your rifles ready.

Just heard his address to the nation. Even when he needs to sound preseidential... even when he needs to give the impression that he's "shoulder-to-shoulder" with his people, he still manages to come across like a bumbling turd.

Hes the President. Not God.

Nothing more than a blame bush campaign. Same thing happened with the tsunami. It would be nice if people used other venues to vent thier real issues instead of politics.

Government is never effiencient, and it is never fast. Sorry if reality comes as a blow to you.

for fucks sake rowland, they are doing an awful job at handling this, and bush is the fucking president, and ultimately responsible for the lack of attention NO is getting. no shit he isn't responsible for the hurricane itself. get a clue or get on with another thread. but criticism of the lack of appropriate response is perfectly understandable.

Events move faster than I can.

The phrase the BBC and Channel 4 are using is "exposing the dark underbelly of America ".

And they are right.

It looks like Africa because 95% of the people are black and poor. And the American State looks like it doesn't give a shit. Compare and contrast with the rush to war to beat up some Muslim baddies.

And while you are at it, compare and contrast the anarchic looting and Mad Max atmosphere with anything that happened in a tsunami affected country.

And then, for a real good laugh, explain why American gun laws are such a great freedom in this given situation.

'Houston we have a problem. Politically, culturally and economic. The world is watching us crap on our own (poor, black) people.'

Time for a War on Nature. Make it official like.

:(

I'm glad you make that distinction. Bush, on the other hand, spectacularly fails to make such a distinction in times of 'normality'.

Yeah, that's right. I was expecting Orin Hatch personally to lead the rescue efforts. Oh wait, no... I was expecting Bush to issue orders to the National Guard to patrol he area... oh, wait... no... they're fighting a futile war based on false evidence in Iraq. Or maybe I was expecting Bush to launch a recue effort with the same expediency he orders the flattening of Baghdad... oh wait, no... how silly of me, that was planned as far back as 2002 - he had at least two years to plan that one.

Maybe I was just hoping he could order the dropping of some fresh water and supplies in the same time-frame it took to drop them on the other side of the world in Indonesia???

Hey... great news just in... Fats Domino is safe! Thank the Lord!

On that note, I laughed when I heard a woman, weighing at least 300lb, being interviewed earlier. Waving her amply-filled water bottle in the air, index finger pointing at the camera, she complained that she hadn't eat for... wait for it... three whole days! There were enough fat deposits on her arm alone, to last her for at least 6 months.

It's tempting to point to the violence and suggest that there is something endemic in US society that has led to such a dire state of primitivity and immorality in such a short space of time. But the truth is, there are people in this world who live like this every day - suffering worse squalor and deprivation without the possibility of saviour - and they too experience the same breakdown of civility. Lawlessness and the desire to revel in a concequence-less environment is not uniquely American, however, I fear that unless there is an improvement quickly, the people's retaliation will be uniquely American - that is, armed.

^^There aren't any white or hispanic or any other race there? Why don't you pick shit on the blacks who are taking up arms and killing and raping white folks down there? From what I hear they are the main perpetrators. I love how quick people are to play the race card as a viable answer for vast problems.

Edit. Meant for StHaMonday

Oh no tamborine man, some of the guard is still here, my hubbys old unit was called up then told "nevermind" 8)

Fuck bush, he IS to blame. He is to blame for not calling up every goddamned Greyhound bus in the country, demandign they drive to NO and demanding they be full of water and spam when they get there. He is responsible for thinking anyone wants to see his sorry ass "look" at the damage. His sorry motherfucking useless behind needs to keep his ass in the oval office on the phone with every company that can be of assistance and demand they get their asses over there.
Fuck bush and fuck anyone who can not see that he isnt' doing enough. :\

What is fast? It's been 5 days now, they knew about this hurricane at least 3 days before it hit (longer before that, but I'd say three days before they knew this was gonna be a pretty big deal considering it was hitting where it was and the strength it had).

That is 1 week and 1 day which I consider to be plenty of time to prepare and put into action something that would have stopped the rapes and murders already.

Honestly if you don't think our governments emergency response agencies should be expected to be at full force after 1 week then I think we should change the name of the Department of Homeland Security to the Department of Homeland Cleanup because that is about all they're going to accomplish with this kind of response time.

We should stop putting any money into training people on how to rescue individuals and having supplies ready to be shipped out and such and start putting money into training people on corpse recovery and garbage collection.

Is that from an article? If so could you provide a link.

See what I mean TM?

No, Nic, its from the TV, News 24 (BBC - After Katrina....our reporters are incredulous at what they are witnessing) and Channel 4 used the phrase first last night.

Here we go.

You know what 95 % means?

As for,
Why don't you pick shit on the blacks who are taking up arms and killing and raping white folks down there?

See the bit about political, cultural and economic problems. If a society promotes greed and the individual above community then anarchy and looting is what you get in a disaster. Compare with Sri Lanka. Which should also show you its not a race problem so quit with the "white folks" jibe.

I simply do not agree with the genarality of this statement.

No race card here. Try the endemic poverty card, and then remember its not my fault that my TV pictures are showing that the endemic poor in New Orleans are black.

Hey, looks like massive convoy coming into town now, and I *think* they said there is a million gallons of water and food involved, or something like that, caught the tail end of the report. Maybe those standing around can get a bit of relief. children and old folks first i hope
