Katrina = Cat.5 = Goodbye New Orleans

Am I the only one who thinks this quote of only 80 possible dead is just insane? No way, the video feeds show entire towns with half the homes underwater, there have been a handful of people already on tv talking about how they lost their spouse.
The numbers of the lost will be staggering, this is a real tragedy.

Heard a 10 year old drowned when her idiot fucking parents let her play in the flood water and she was carried away :X

Considering the mayor or gov whatever of LA has said there is significant loss of life, but won't say what number leads me to think that it'll go up by quite a bit. They're marking the houses of the dead with black paint, but can't do anything about them right now.

Bay St Louis also is reported to have significant loss of life..

shame.

first stop to loot=pharmacy
god damn that'd be fun.

i agree though, there's no way just 80 or 90 people died, it has to be more.

we evacuated. We are in Tallahassee FL but might be flying to CA to stay with my grandma. We have no idea when we can go home or the condition of our particular neighborhood.

We are horrified at the news we are seeing.

Im so sorry :( there is so much to consider, for example work....companies shut down, how do people work, get paid, pay their bills. Hope things go ok for you.

Let's thank the republicans for the new laws making bankruptcy harder!! (sorry didn't mean to get political) seriously though, when your town is basically shut down for months, these are the problems that come in addition to simply finding housing for them.

i think that it would be best to not judge people stuck in a circumstance you would never hope to have.

they are without access to civilization - water is contaminated, their lives and homes have been destroyed. most of them probably couldn't have left if they had wanted to. sadly, most of them are probably the poor inner city people you see in your day to day life and pass over as unimportant. those type of people have no cars and maybe no tv or internet or cell phones. they are going through hell on earth and you are saying they should be shot in the head for looting some jewerly and other misc. junk that insurance will cover some day anyhow. if they even manage to survive the next few weeks of insanity thats going on there.

.... i dont know what else to say.

I think that qoute is from FL and MI. I dont think theyve made an estimate on how many in LA died. 11 People died in FL alone.

ya the deathtoll wont be known for a very long time.. many people are stuck in attics and other hard to reach places.. there is really no knowing how many are gone even from towns like biloxi which was just leveled.. pretty horrible

Is it worth the cost to rebuild in the same location?
Is it worth the future risk to rebuild a city below sea level?
Some tough questions with no easy answers.

I'm afraid that the city is dying.
There may be no economical means of resuscitation.

that is what we are saying [edited], that it is likely absurdly higher than that, in the hundreds easily, did you SEE the news? Or does seeing a man or woman crying over his lost spouse or kids and seeing the plethora of homes underwater and the owners likely dead in those homes take away your fun?

dont get me worng, I think you are a funny mother fucker. but it makes you REALLY not funny when you have such awful timing.

:p

I saw the interview with the father that lost his wife. His son was with him. He said that he couldn't hold on and his wife was gone. He didn't know where to go - devastated. He simply said at the end of the interview, "I am lost"...

I had tears in my eyes after watching that....

Literally.

The sad part is that New Orleans survived the hurricane. The levees didn't breach until Katrina had passed. The breaks in the levees have widened and efforts to block the water flow have failed.

from WWLTV: ****All residents on the east bank of Orleans and Jefferson remaining in the metro area are being told to evacuate as efforts to sandbag the levee break have ended. The pumps in that area are expected to fail soon and 9 feet of water is expected in the entire east bank within the next 12-15 hours****

Jeff Parish President: "Residents will probably be allowed back in town in a week, with identification only, but only to get essentials and clothing. You will then be asked to leave and not come back for one month."

It is a mandatory evac, you mean to tell me the cops won't take you to a shelter if you call and ask? I doubt it.

edit,

I do realize it is easier to believe the "it won't happen to me" attitude, but when cat 5 is heading to you, you don't take chances, you just don't. Especially when your town is UNDER SEA LEVEL it is just stupid and irresponsible.

CMB enough is enough this tragedy has reached epic proportions your humor is allways refreshing but at this time it is no longer a joke thousands of people are dead and millions more homeless you must quit with your comments they are not easing the tensions if that what you are thinking

^here's a tissue for you all. Like whats the deal with natural disasters anyway? When ever there is above normal weather activity we have to have a mass mourning session. Pathetic really. It's really a drop in the bucket of the grander scale of human suffering.
