Katrina = Cat.5 = Goodbye New Orleans

Why would you shoot at a rescue helicopter?

that all sounds like bullshit to me. its funny how twisted that story has become. All three major news networks report it, but all three of them say that "its not clear if shots were fired at the helicopter, or at the general direction of the helicopter." the way I see it, it was probably just a stray round. hell, its a violent city even when its not flooded.

here we have hundreds maybe thousands of people dying, and the major news story, the one that newspapers thousands of miles away report on, is a fucking RUMOR, that is making the average person think to themselves "well fuck them, they don't need our help." its just plain sad.

^Anything to make the US more hateable. We're like the tabloid for the rest of the world and it's easier to hate us than obsess over us.... You only get one of the two.

Anything to make the US more hateable.

well, I don't know if thats the plan, but that will be the result of stories like this.
all three news networks foxnews, cnn, and msnbc, keep repeating this same story every 5 minutes, over and over and over again, and STILL NO ONE has confirmed that it has actually happened. and they admit that no one knows if it actually happened! yet they have confirmed reports of a group of close to 500 people (women and children included) taking shelter on a highway overpass in the 95 degree heat with no food or water, for two days now, and of course, I only hear that story......ONCE! it boggles the mind.

"If Bush had any sense he would withdraw troops from Iraq and free up billions in military spending to help those effected by this."

actualy there are more than enough troops available to take care of this problem. sense is something you should look into yourself.

The reason you see something 500 times is because it's
"LIVE!" and there is obviously a delay in new "BREAKING!" news.

There is an apartment complex on fire in downtown NO and people are trapped, no fire crews on site yet. This just keeps getting worse.

^It's on Fox now, the camera crews heard people screaming for help.

Why wouldn't you believe the people are shooting at the helicopters? I wouldn't put it past them.

They're acting like total barbarians, like it's the end of the world. Yes I understand the conditions they are in are the worst imaginable probably, and no I've never been there, etc. But at some point you have to hope the 'good in man' will prevail and common sense will surface once again.

First hand accounts of current situation in New Orleans

The folks from DirectNIC have stayed put and are currently still connected to the internet and running off diesel generators. There is a blog up at http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/

It's raining now and I guess that's a relief from the heat. It's hot as hell down there in the sun. Crime is absolutely rampant: rapes, murders, rape-murder combinations.

In case anyone in national security is reading this, get the word to President Bush that we need the military in here NOW. The Active Duty Armed Forces. Mr. President, we are losing this city. I don't care what you're hearing on the news. The city is being lost. It is the law of the jungle down here. The command and control structure here is barely functioning. I'm not sure it's anyone's fault -- I'm not sure it could be any other way at this point. We need the kind of logistical support and infrastructure only the Active Duty military can provide. The hospitals are in dire straights. The police barely have any capabilities at this point. The National Guard is doing their best, but the situation is not being contained. I'm here to help in anyway I can, but my capabilities are limited and dropping. Please get the military here to maintain order before this city is lost.

30,000 National Guardsmen are going to be going down. National Guardsmen and police came under fire from street mobs who may have had AK47's, according to Fox News interviews with police. Reports of robberies, rapes and carjackings around the city.

Damn I am thankful I am not down there, seems like a warzone. I hope things start to take a turn for the better down there but I suppose thats still a few days away...

Congress is going to reconvene for a special session to pass emergency legislation, probably within the next 24 hours.

it's madness to think people would act like this in a natural disaster..?! i'm shocked at what i've read so far.
what happened to people working together, trying to get themselves out of a shitty situation?

Of course I don't know what it's like to go through a hurricane, and I'll probably never know what their reasons were...... but I just don't get it - why the fuck did all those people stay? If every indicator told you that a gigantic ass hurricane was heading your way, isn't that a good clue to leave?

I just don't get it - do people think they are invincible to mother nature? :(

*shrugs*

you work at taco bell
you dont have a car
you live in low income housing
you have 4 childeren
you're a single mother
oh and your family also meets the above critera

you're going where exactly?

There were some people interviewed who claimed they were afraid of the looters. I dont understand that mentality at all.. take what's most important and leave.
A family that did that was found dead in their home by a neighbor. Such a waste.
