Everything was great and Detroit was prosperous and considered one of the richest cities until around 1950. What jobs a abroad. Sterling Heights? I can walk there to Detroit in 2 hours. Moving from below 8 miles to various places below many well below 20 mile is not abroad. In fact some built factories a couple of miles a way. The Unions got greedy and those good high paying jobs is why Detroit is mostly Black and why so many arabs live in this area.( highest concentration in the Detroit metro area and Dearborn. Because the jobs paid so well. The mafia controlled unions paid off the city council to enact ridiculously high wages and all sorts of other costs so that the mafia could get money. News flash, Detroit has a mafia and it is small now, but big during Hoffa's years and was is in the decline. This began before Hoffa's reign and all the corruption, don't you know shit about Jimmy Hoffa and those who preceded him. Henry Ford would hire people regardless of race and pay them more that twice what the average worker made and it was unskilled labor on the assembly lines and 8 hour work days 5 days a week and overtime.( skilled blue collar labor requires an apprenticeship which can take years. This was unskilled labor at wages that illiterates could work 40 hours and buy a new single family home, a car or two and only need one income to support a family comfortably, which is a lot more than any communist country could boast.
