jungle
weird wise & wild-eyed
morosely contemplating death at the
hands of a 15 foot scorpion statue.
all aglow with psychedelic sparkle visions,
rolling under waves of misconception &
disinformation.
hailing down an electric blue monster truck
taxi cab
the 3 foot driver is a chimp in
tattered coveralls of stained denim.
an aged primate with rose-colored
reading glasses
hung from skinny neck by a washed out
hemp rope.
the back seat smells of sweat fear sex &
malt liquor.
now on the great satanic American HWY,
cruising for queers & mutants
snakes dogs & filthy old beggars.
when the fare comes up twenty three &
a half, the rider steps into
sheets of freezing acid rain,
black leather hudled around his shaking
numb limbs.
too much opium in the sweaty
oriental tent city &
now vomiting in the crowded gutter
of disenfranchisement.
nothing to do out here on the perimeter
but silent pondering wandering.
hoping to catch a frieght train to
a sunny day in omaha,
where the din of old women & bad drugs
is drowned out by acres of
lonely landscape.
O Jerusalem!
city that stoned the prophets,
humanity that turned collective backs on
the grace of God!
where do you seek salvation now
but in the embrace of phantastic
chemical covenants & holy whore madonnas?
Kool Aid & death in a huge Rubbermaid
garbage can.
