Hello Blue lighters,
When smoking ganja I typically roll joints, blunts, or secret agents, rather than packing a piece (though I have several.) I smoke cigarettes anyway, so for me a joint provides a more enjoyable and convenient experience than a piece. Because I predominantly smoke ganja in paper form I want to share my techniques and methods, for your benefit, as well as for hopefully learning new methods and techniques used by yourselves... So without further ado we're off to the world of
Secret Agents
Secret agents, as the name implies, are used for stealth smoking. Sometimes you want to smoke but you simply aren't in a private or safe place where smoking is acceptable. This is where this nifty device comes in.
A secret agent is a cigarette filter packed (as opposed to rolled) with weed.
Generally when I pack a secret agent I roll the filter and the tobacco out of the secret agent by gently rolling the cigarette between my thumb and index finger, applying pressure to the cigarette opposite of the direction I want to eject both the filter* and the tobacco (for example I roll the filter out of the end of the cigarette that you smoke from; pinching the filter at the end where it meets the tobacco.) Once I have emptied the filter and the tobacco out of the cigarette, and am left with just the cigarette paper (also called a filter), I can begin the packing process to create a secret agent.
*Removing the cigarette's filter adds an extra step to the packing process and is not necessary, rather it depends on your personal preference. Leaving the filter in will reduce the amount of THC that you would otherwise inhale with the smoke. The amount of THC removed is not substantial, however, depending on the quality of your bud it could mean the difference between a head high and a body high. Leaving the filter in also cools the smoke like in a regular cigarette.
The first step in packing a secret agent is to add a new filter (unless of course you left the original filter in, in which case you can skip this bit.) I typically roll a filter out of thick paper or cardboard (empty cigarette packs provide a good material for rolling filters, as do the packs that rolling papers come in.) I start with a length of material that is the same width as the width of the original filter and long enough that when rolled up tightly, the diameter does not exceed that of the empty paper filter. I then crease an end of the filter material and proceed to roll up the filter around this crease. When finished rolling your filter you should breath through it to test the airflow. I check to make sure that I can easily breath freely through the filter, while at the same time making sure that the space between the coils is not large enough to allow debris (scooby snacks) through. At this point the rolled filter should not exceed the diameter of the empty cigarette filter, but rather, should be slightly smaller (by a mm perhaps) to allow expansion and a snug fit once you pack the rolled filter into the end of the cigarette.
Now that you have a filter in your empty cigarette you can pack in your blend of smoke-able. Being a habitual smoker of cigarettes, I tend to pack both tobacco and ganja into my secret agents, creating a spliff*. Many people who do not smoke tobacco prefer to keep their secret agents pure ganja, which is just fine too. At any rate you should have your smoking material ready (preferably ground up with a grinder, though you can get the same effect by thoroughly picking the weed apart straight off the bud.) Begin to pack your secret agent by scooping the ganja up into the end of the filter. After each scoop lightly tap the butt of the secret agent on a flat surface in order to loosely pack the material down (hooray gravity). Once your secret agent has been packed to around a quarter full you should use force to compact the material within, using a tamper (you can improvise a tamper with many household products. I've found that using a crayola colored pencil works well and fits snugly in most Camels and Marlboros.) Repeat this process until you have a fully packed secret agent (periodically draw breath through the cigarette to ensure that you aren't packing it too tightly.) Now that your secret agent is packed you can enjoy it out in the open world, just remember that society on a whole has become more accustomed and familiar with the weed smell. Enjoy.
*A spliff is a joint or secret agent that is comprised of a mixture of tobacco and weed. When rolling joints I mix the tobacco and weed evenly throughout the mixture in order to maintain an even burn once lit. With secret agents, however, the possibility of layering becomes available. If you're going to spliff your secret agent and either wish to have the experience of smoking weed and tobacco separate, or if you're using disproportional amounts of weed and tobacco to spliff and therefore can't get an even mixture of the two, you should considering layering the weed and tobacco.
That's all I have the patience to write at the moment, however I will add a new installment on my techniques for rolling joints in the days to come. Until then I hope this helps some of you roll great secret agents, and please leave comments or suggestions. Cheers.
