Jan 6 Attack on the Capitol and the aftermath

you seem to be a reasonable guy @Las Veghost grower

we often disagree, and that's fine because you're respectful, but surely you'd agree that characterizing what happened at the capitol as a bunch of people being ushered/invited in to the building via an open door is just cynical, deflective bullshit?

where's the usher here? where's the open door?

@alasdairm Is it me or is that the third time you've posted that photo in this thread?

I can't help but pity those who are causing some of us to constantly repeat ourselves.

Comparing Jan 6 to Seattle and other protests from 2020 would be okay if we were comparing apples to apples. But like I've said before, Jan 6 was about more than property damage and violence. It was an attempt to overturn a fair election and install an authoritarian dictator in control of our nation. If you can't see the apples/oranges being compared here then you simply cannot or choose not to see the forest for the trees.

Was it really deliberate planning tho ? Like really, or was it a bunch of hopped up people saying some shit in the heat of the moment…if they were planning a insurrection it would have played out more like Seattle…I’m sorry that was no insurrection on jan6, they wernt even armed for fuck sake, think about it, showing up unarmed to a insurrection…it makes zero sense, like really think about it thoroughly and you will see it was not a insurrection

Someone breaking into a government building gets shot (after dozens of lawful orders to stop and a gun being pointed the whole time)... Omg why did they murder that innocent person??? Why did they do that??

All that shit was beyond unbelievable. I mean, what the actual fuck?!! It takes A LOT to shock me...but when I saw that shit on tv, I was speechless. My brain just couldn't comprehend this shit...it was like watching something from another dimension.

The second those idiots stormed the building they should've been gunned down. Period.

that point was already discussed, and debunked, earlier in the thread.

Well most of them were unarmed at least, it’s not like a tactical team showed up, they were mostly unarmed
(This is merica after all)protestors that started a riot…a insurrection makes more sense than that given the circumstances ?

The selfie stick is mightier than the sword!

^ would you call it rebellion? if the definition of rebellion is "an act of violent or open resistance to an established government or ruler."

it was certainly violent but, at very least open, resistance, right?

Whether it was an insurrection or not, many people in the crowd believed it was, according to on site interviews and proud boys leaders testifying to Congress. They were under the impression that they were taking control, installing Trump back in office and many of them would be given government positions by Trump himself.

MAGA is a delusional fringe group? I'd agree with half of that statement.

Trump absolutely loves the proud boys, gives them shout outs all the time. He likes delusional people? (answer: yes)
Yes those groups are fringe groups, they are all about the same whether it be patriot front or antifa. They are all used for the manipulation you see in the media. Some of the fringe members testifying under clear duress that it was an insurrection doesn’t make it so legally or otherwise. It’s pretty delusional to think that, but I do sympathize with those still under the notion that state media is an authority.

Arnt most riots some form of resistance? We’re getting deep into semantics I think…I would just call it a riot

sure, but words are important.

in this case, it wasn't a generalised riot. it was resistance - or rebellion - specifically aimed at disrupting or preventing the jan 6th certification process.

from the u.s. code:

Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

but, i think that if you continue to view the events at the capitol outside the context of everything else i've mentioned that was happening leading up to the 6th, then we'll probbaly never agree. so at this point, happy to agree to disagree.

I just see it as a riot, if they were there for an insurrection they would have came heavily armed and not left same day, sorry but I’ll never see it as anything other than a riot and not even the worst one in recent years
