So, I’ve been doing IV drugs for roughly 20 years- largely opiates, but a little of everything along the way. As one might imagine, my veins have practically disowned me by this late juncture, and have presented a frustrating nightmare the last few years. I’ve used literally every imaginable vein from the neck down, and was becoming desperate and miserable, nearly ready to throw in the towel and at least take a break, but then I found a wonderful new ally...
A friend suggested looking for this in the App Store, on a whim, and said he was actually joking, but lo and behold, there is actually such a thing as a vein finder! Yes! I’d heard of phlebotomists having lights and such, and had even ordered a cheap hand-held red flashlight that is marketed as such, but it sucked and didn’t help a bit. However, the (Free!) app VeinSeekPro (which I am not affiliated with whatsoever, besides being an enormous fan), has totally changed my game and made finding new and viable veins a breeze.
It takes a little bit of trial and error, and there’s a bit of a learning curve, but with some practice, it’s a lifesaver. I’ve noticed, too, with it, that it doesn’t show veins that are inflamed or collapsed, but just ones that are healthy and working- I imagine this has to do with actual blood flow being visible or something. The instructions state that you should use the filter on the lowest setting that works for you- otherwise it’s kind of visually cloudy, I suppose from picking up capillaries. Once you get the hang of it, you can’t beat it. God bless the person who came up with this thing, really.
I would encourage anyone who has any difficulty whatsoever to give it a try. I use IOS, and am not 100% certain it’s available for android, but would imagine that it is.
Oh, and another neat trick that I’ve picked up along the way is the use of Viagra, aka sildenafil, as a potent vasodilator, which makes finding and hitting veins a dream. You don’t have to have a dick for it to be your new best friend, but it’s worth stating that, at least in my case, frequent use of it leads to potential dependence on it, so I try to reserve it for absolute necessity type situations. Even just half a tablet helps tremendously. I haven’t found really any benefit to taking other drugs in its class, like Cialis or its generic form, but that may just be me, and it’s possible that it would be of use to others.
Obviously, if you have some kind of heart condition, don’t take it unless you’re sure that it’s safe for you to, and be aware that the enhanced blood flow does make stuff hit you a little harder. I’ve heard of people dying from combining it with cocaine, but that’s just hearsay and not validated fact, although something to certainly keep in mind.
I hope that this helps others as much as it’s helped me!
