im reposting this from joepeps question in another thread:
I am not sure how to use this forum , but i recently banged an 8mg dilaudid, new rig, did not miss, yet i have all these hives or blotches on my arm. does anyone know what this is, or how to treat it?

It sounds like either a histamine release from the hydromorphone, or an allergic reaction to something in the pill, if you definitely didn't miss your shot. How long have they been there, and have you tried antihistamines?

We're not a medical forum, so if you are concerned you should definitely get it seen by a doctor and as the poster above said, if it is not going away then get it checked out..

Did you use a micron filter?

The main questions to ask your self are:

How quickly after injection did they appear? A histamine reaction will usually show up within minutes of injection. If that is not the case and it showed up for example, 24 hour after the injection, you are dealing with a different animal. See a doctor.

Do they itch to the touch? Is there any pain/swelling? a histmaine reaction will not be painful and swell like a missed shot.. it will be more itchy with raised splotches. If there is pain/swelling see a doctor, ESPECIALLY if this is increasing after 24 hours and not decreasing.

How long have they been there? A histamine reaction should go away pretty quick.. like an hour or so. If what you have seems to be worse in an hour rather than better.. see a doc

How are they appearing in relation to your injection site? A missed shot for example will be a lump/pain right at teh site. Histamine reactions will have raised splothces (not swollen with pain) around the injection site and within a 12" radius or so (IME).

If there is any pain, or the reaction seems to be increasing with time and not subsiding, DEFINITELY see a doctor. If you find your self very concerned.. listen to your self, see a doctor.

i get this all the time whether its a 2, 4 or 8mg name brand dilaudid. it goes all the way up where my vein is heading toward the heart. it's just an allergic reaction. the last time i got it was because my dealer wore alot of cologne and didn't have them in a bag. i've experienced this for 12 years and it has never done anything other than be a little red and itchy and then go away in about 15min.
