Disclaimer: I feel the same way about stimulant induced great walls of text as I do discos, which, I try to avoid like the plague. Im going to approach this with the intention of being a real champ and make it short and to the point... with illustrations!!!

Okay, I am an IV drug user of about 6 years. I went off to college back then, and literally went home and, having been in pain management only a month for the after effects of a rough battle with testicular torsion, cluelessly putting my new rx of MS Contin 30s in a spoon (like on tv!!).... becoming an IV user the day we learned to place IVs in school. (I wanted to be a paramedic) I didn't have friends who IV'd, I never witnessed it in my entire life. Needless to say, I ended up literally almost losing my arm to a MRSA. I filtered it but, to this day, it is the only time I have put heat to any opiate based pill. The thing literally seemed to gumball in just offset to the upper right of ole' faithful (middle of elbow). I was scared to tell my family or friends and naively underestimated the serverity. I ended up on vancomycin among 2 oral and 1 IM antibiotic and went into acute renal distress and was withdrawn from the vancomycin for about 48 hours. When the doctor came into my room in ICU to tell me this news I was feeling better, felt sane rather than delerious and wasnt running a fever over 102.5!! He came with an ortho surgeon who wanted to discuss with my parental unit (I was just a couple months into age 18) the reality that amputation was now on the table. I wasn't even "riding the wave" yet but that was my first 'bottom' Anyways, I tell you this because it was such a wake up call to the dangers of IV use. Fast forward 5 1/2 years and I haven't had any complications from my IV use that ever demanded more than a second thought. I have rather good veins and what I have come to appreciate as responsible rotation and technique. I haven't had to leave the middle of my forearms up into the 3rd quarter of my upper bicep and I have been blessed to not experience the pain and stress that comes with a bad miss. So, here I am before you today, into my 3rd month of somewhat regular, albeit spread out, IV meth use. It's plateaued basically with 3 days on, 4 off. I have a job with a large corporation and tend to spend monday-thursdayish in classic Office Space fashion. Electing to do my thing on the wknd. With opiates and ketamine, I never dealt with the vasoconstriction that comes with meth. While having IV'd coke during a few heated binges, the irregularity never presented the challenges 3 days or so of IV meth use does. I am rather privy and always have been to my Cephallic vein in my biceps. I have no real access to my median cubital in my left arm from localized problems when receiving IV phenergan and vancomycin for my MS Contin fiasco. On my right arm I still have access, with mild-mod scar tissue, of this site in my right arm. I have never, ever, injected anything into the basillic vein in my upper arm in either arms. My concern is this: While it does not present discomfort or limitation worst recognizing, it does, at times become recognizable in the form of pressurized or bottle necking. Upon feeling the length of this vein with my finger, I am presented with a frightening amount of thromboses spanning the entire course of this vein. Sometime last week, I was using my Cephallic vein in my right arm in the middle of my bicep and when I entered and rested the needle within the vein and prepared to register, it was almost as if there was no return of blood to my heart from my arm. Like both major routes back were blocked. I felt the pressure increase and could really, in a way feel the blood twist and turn its way through my basillic vein while my Cephallic was just shouting to me to get this bullshit out of its way. I know the vasoconstriction is not an ally to my situation here but this is beginning to claim space in my head lately. It's like a shitty country dirt road and the pot holes are rampant. I want to mention again that this condition has given me no pain worth mentioning, no numbness or tingling, no change in tone or restricted use of my arm. I am curious as to what exactly the explination to this is considering I have never used this span of basillic vein in my upper arm where all these lovely tic tacs have seemed to settle. I don't even use the forearm veins that feed into this span all that much at all really. Why no symptoms aside from being able to physically touch them. I take my hearty dose of baby aspirin 3x daily, nom nom on my multi vitamin gummies and faithfully smash a protein shake blend that is plentiful magnesium and amino acids. I am not overweight or inactive. I use arnica gel and bio oil and would like to think I treat my vein health as responsibly as anyone with a consistent IV drug habit could. I use micron filters and am not sure why this seems to be the only location this is happened and why it is so passionate about colonizing my basillic vein. I take baths in epsom salt, do warm compresses among other things to try to see this thing through. Unfortunately, it seems to help little. The thromboses have gotten worse and are seemingly heading south into the forearm veins that feed into it, albeit slowly. I assume at some point one of these with dislodge and potentially be very problematic and seeing as these my basillic and cephallic pathways seem to be a crucial thoroughfare for my arm and heart, the arms been riding the pine lately. To no avail though. Nothing seems to be improving noticably. Any wisdom/help here would be highly appreciated.

tldr;

thromboses seem to have colonized my basillic vein in my upper right arm. I have never injected directly into the effected span and have had no recent complications to speak of in the rest of the arm. Seems to bottle neck. Take aspirin and use compresses (although I now worry a warm compress with allow one of these lovely balls to dislodge and do some real travelling) and have generally tried everything I know. Wisdom/Suggs please!

Thanks again.

I would get it checked out by a doctor, since you say you have a "frightening amount" and that it appears to be getting worse.

Most cases involving superficial thrombophlebitis, thrombosis of shallow veins, begin to resolve by themselves in a week or two. But rarely, these blocked veins can lead to infection or tissue damage from the loss of circulation. With shallow veins it is actually fairly unlikely that portion of the clot could break off, enter the bloodstream, and travel far enough from the site to cause serious problems.

For superficial thrombophlebitis the treatment is normally the things you are doing: take aspirin, apply hot compresses, and, if desired, apply epsom salt compresses or bathe the area in epsom salts to reduce pain and/or inflammation. You could elevate the arm as well. And of course, not doing any meth until it improves would be an excellent idea.

If large deep veins may be involved or you have symptoms of deep vein thrombosis, there are much greater risks and you should def seek medical attention. Also if it seems to be getting more and more painful, keeps getting worse and doesn't start to improve fairly soon, seems to be cutting off the circulation in your arm/hand, causing a lot of swelling, etc, please seek medical attention.

Please see a doctor anyway though just to be on the safe side <3
