ITT: Methadone Maintenance Frustrations v How to Deal With MMT Counselors

So, today I had an appointment with my counselor at my methadone clinic. You have to see her once a month, to check in on your progress.... She really is worthless and stupid, not a bit of help , at all, and to make things worse she looks down on her patients (from her mouth) and does her best to piss us off....for instance, I arrived @ 9:38 for my 9:30 appointment, I got stuck in traffic on my way....then, when I got there, there was nobody in the waiting room to check me in....so, I went back to dose, and my counselor had already written up the page to reduce my privileges, 9 minutes after my appointment..... This clinic is in a small town, and I've waited on every aspect of the clinic for up to 2 1/2 hours to dose because they're busy or some random bullshit, but me being under 10minutes late is justification enough to reduce my privileges, which is going to do way more harm than good as far as keeping me straight, I HAVE to work, so I'm going to be missing some doses :\ They wouldn't let me just have my appointment when I got there, (nobody was waiting on her).. I told her I had to stop and get gas on my way, and she says "What does that mean?" as though she doesn't understand what I'm trying to say .....She really is a shitty human being.... Is there anything I can do when I see her for my appointment tomorrow to get my point across that I KNOW she's a neurotic drug pusher doing more harm to society than the heroin dealers she replaces? What would you say? How would you put it eloquently yet mean to no end......

I know this post has no value, I'm just so GD frustrated I have to mention it somewhere.....

What would you say?

I'm going to change a few things in your post and change the thread's title so that we can keep this thread open... because I think there could be some value here.

thanks, sorry, like I said I know it's kind of a throw away post..... I'm sure you understand my frustration though

I just haven't heard good things about the methadone program and for those reasons that you seem to have aleady mentioned or touched upon. I do understand that, for a good number of recovering addicts, methadone has saved their lives and it's a miracle for them. I understand that, but I also understand that, likewise, for a good number of recovering addicts, methadone frustrates them beyond belief and they feel trapped.

They dont call it liqued handcuffs for nothing. That being said you should not under any circumstances piss your couselor off. I would treat her like my probation officer yes mam no mam kiss her ass do whatever you gotta do to get in good. As your realizing she has total control over your life at the clinic.

Try and get a new counselor. If that's not an option, suck it up. Do what you gotta do and be on time.

Or get off the done. It's gotta happen sooner or later.

*vengeful, self-incriminating post removed*

Please, we're here to talk about methadone and not about vandalizing another's car. - verso

IMO methadone can go both ways. It can REALLY help some people but it can make SOME people even worse in their addiction. I have heard horror stories from other friends about MM counselors. Try and seek a new counselor or make a complaint about what is going on.

My counselor at the clinic I went to for 11 months was a great guy and we would normally just sit and have a normal conversation. If I was in a hurry or running late, I would tell him that and he would just sign the paperwork saying he talked to me and let me dose.

But I don't see how anyone can work at a clinic and see the bullshit that goes on there and honestly say, that they are helping addicts.

My clinic was great about giving horrible advice, such as, getting pregnant on methadone isn't that big of a deal.
