Why would any good part of socialism or communism be due to us? When all we (our government rather) have done to ideologies like that is oppress them and go to war 1000s of miles away to "contain" them.

Just accept that there are inherent flaws in all economic systems and move on. If communism was ever going to work in the real world it would have by now.
Also, communism and socialism aren't the same, so saying "communism will never work" isn't the end all be all you think it is.
