Hi guys, Long time lurker, first time poster..... ive searched and found loads of posts about ambien, but none that answer my question.....

So, I've had about 10yr heroin habit on and off (mainly on), and during this time ive done Many, many withdrawals...... i recently embarked on a detox and on the second day I sniffed some Zolpidem... i seemed to get a fair amount of relief from it (although still fairly bullshit sleep, although bullshit sleep is better than no sleep)......

But now im on day 4 of cold turkey and it seems to be getting worse and the craving to sniff ambien is getting stronger....

so...... my question is, is the sniffing zolpidem making it worse? Now I know it doesnt contain opiates but is it somehow prolonging it? usually im over the worst by the 4th day.

thanks in advance for any comments....

btw im probably sniffing between 60-80mg a day and swallowing one or two also.

WOW,I can't relate to 60-80 mg a day,,I'm sober and loving my new life and Guitar, you need professional help, you ain't gettin better by yourself buddy,10 years? You beating that body up. I'm a long time opioids user but I'm out of this crap for good,my Guitar gently weeps, good luck,, Pray,God listens.

Ambien shouldnt prolong any withdrawals,
It may cause worsen RLS for some people,
but if youre not having that issue you should be fine.
Best of luck to you, I know how crappy herion withdrawal is.
Much love my friend

Do you normally use Ambien or did you just start?

It shouldn't prolong heroin withdrawal but it could be causing either its own withdrawal syndrome if you have been using it for a while, or else just causing side effects and/or rebound effects. Heroin withdrawal does tend to get worse every time you go through it IME. But that is a TON of Ambien, maybe that is the problem. The normal dose of Ambien is 5mg to a maximum of 10mg. It's possible that the side effects are making your heroin withdrawal feel worse. I'd reduce the Ambien intake. And why are you sniffing it?

Hi guys, in answer to questions, I've only been taking it for a few days, it just seemed to put alot of the withdrawal symptoms at bay... although today is day 5 I believe and have I'm feeling really really cruddy :(

Usually through the worst by now :(

What's most important in recovery is the absolute love for yourself, it is only going to work if you love who you are enough to want to fight for who you know you are. Its not the end of the road and a possible reason you are meeting so much resistance with yourself is because you really only know a world where at one point you take drugs during the day. Even I had a transitional period when i got on methadone where i was trying to get high on almost anything (other then cocaine, wasnt doing that again) but those desires eventually faded as i got comfortable being myself i guess. Really what happened was i finally realized i dont need to do something every day and that most people probably dont and by doing that i learned to fill free time with productive hobbies (another critical aspect when you spend so much time obtaining/on/thinking about drugs)

I would advise working on lowering the ambien intake as that will only hurt you down the road. Its fine to be searching for relief externally in the depths of withdrawals but true relief comes from finding it within. You can do this is you want to and there are plenty of reasons to love being alive once you realize it. Good luck.

Plus obtaining sobriety from opiates means I get to look at every day through the lens of "am i broke, no. withdrawaling from heroin, no. its two days from payday and i have money, does it really matter how i feel about today because by previous standards that is a miracle" Everyday I do not wake up thinking about opiates 5 minutes before i even am conscious is an awesome day and it will always be that way.
