Is there anybody (in a fraternity) out there?

I have a few friends in Phi Psi at Michigan, they say it's good too. I also know some kids in frats at CSU, but I've heard frats aren't necessary there. Like some schools the social life sucks if you don't go Greek, but at Colorado I heard you don't have to go Greek.

Sae!

Hey, just reading some past posts and this one caught my attention. I'm actually an SAE. My outlook on the greek system is that you can't throw it into a stereotype. Every house is different and they each have their own unique vibe. And the greek life as a whole is a different life, which you can't really understand unless your a part of it.

The one redeeming quality I've heard about fraternities/sororities is that they do a lot of community outreach work.

Just out of curiosity, how many hours a week would one be expected to help out the community?

For my fraternity, you are required to do 20 hours of community service each term when you are pledging. Once you become a member, then you will see the 80/20 rule go into effect. 80% of the work (which includes community service), is done by 20% of the people in the house...then there's the opposite side of the spectrum with 20% of the people in the house who do nothing at all.

The 80/20 rule is pretty standard I think. That's just a fact of life, there will always be people more interested in being active in the fraternity.

Yes, I'm in a fraternity in a school down south. And no, I do not wear American Eagle/A&F. We try to be southern gentleman; and therefore we tend to wear Polo, Patagonia, Brooks Brothers, etc.

Not everyone in the fraternity is into drugs like I am, but its cool with me. Everyone is chill and most are lifelong friends-- my brothers.
