is there a scene in ct?

^^ One of the things I like about Eastern Connecticut is that I'm near lil Rhody, Boston, the Cape, and NYC... I'm in the middle. :) If anything I'll be in RI more often when the drive is 20 minutes instead of an hour and 20 minutes... :)

Wasn't system that club in hartford infested with bad music & meatheads???

Meatheads? Yes. Bad music? Ummm, that would be Insomnia/Vibe.
Insomnia played cheesy worn-out Trance (no offense Insomnia/Vibe/Trance heads) throughout the entire club, whilst System had Progressive Trance, House, Techno and NRG in the Main Room....DnB, 2-step, and Funky Breaks in the Jungle Room....Downtempo on the outdoor rooftop lounge....and ambient/chillout in the basement lounge. System's roster included Sean Cunningham, Maa Bell, Maddam Buddafly, JJ Blades, Knowledge, James Fusion, Pheonix Rising, Quixotic...etc.
Bad music? I think not. hehe.
You guys should know better than to get me started on what used to be the funnest hangout on the planet. LOL!!
I remember the lines for System wrapping around the block. People waited for hours to get in. The only way Insomnia/Vibe would make business on a Saturday night was if System turned people away and sent them there. lol!
System owned my life since it opened in "99 up until it closed it's doors. It was truly a special place and had a vibe like no other. System was a gathering place for some of the most friendliest, and genuine people that really had a love for music that I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Many of which I STILL chill with. The vibe, the music, and the excitement of System was the catalyst that jet propelled me from extreme "club head" to partykid. It will always have a special place in my heart. ((((R.I.P SYSTEM!))))
Xtcvitality, we're like SO on the same page, dewd. :) I know Dave knows what I'm talkin' about too.
Kandegirl25, It's true, Matrix will be opening soon although I have no idea when....
(I better digress, lest I be accused of straying off-topic. lol)
Luke and Chrissie, welcome to CT!! Unfortunatly, there is not much of a scene in CT... unless you consider that whole "Muni" nonsense to be anything of consequence. The above posts on that place pretty much sums it up.
I invite you to check out beautiful, classy, and uber-suburban Cheshire/Wolcott. My neck of the woods. :)

I remember back in the day when Vibe was Insomnia...... ahhhh, memories. travel to MA, hit up Asylum.
Speekah Phreekah. If System was the shit, then why did they open after Insomnia, and close before Insomnia became Vibe? System was a pit. IMO.

hey , hey -- *#!@? it's amazin . system definatly used to rock. man we used to go up there, pay our loot, and james fusion was crankin maad energy(and i'm not takin bout tha genre eitha /thats nrg which just happen to be his style hmmm). even mabelle used to tweak the pioneer. i'd go downstairs and jj blades was flexin jungle . it was crazy i had a blast. we really gotta think about we "hate" on the connecticut scene! just dig in , keep a positve mindstate, and the scene will elevate. Old things die , and new things are reborn. some crazy capiotilistic , dude 's pops throws down money for a phat club and hard workin djs have a place to spin. there it is man. the great contadiction , which creates that perfect tension and in the middle of it all we dance the night away. so think about it. be about our scene. man if everybody started to really focus thier collective energies on a "great ct electronic scene" there's no limit(and i'm not talkin bout master p )

the last official "rave" that happened in ct, was aww yea, at the new haven coliseum, and you do not wanna know what a commercial/press/police disaster that was.

^^ Well there was "Sugar" and "Spice" this spring in Dayville... much smaller than "Aww Yeah" but still brought in some headliners and a good turnout. Spice was actually alot of fun. :)

that is true, but honestly the ratio of good to bad CT parties sucks heh, like i dont trust a CT party at all. Its not even the fact of wether or not the DJ's there spin well or not, its the overall fact that CT has a terrible vibe it seems. Anyone remember that horrific rave in Greenwich, CT hehe i didnt even go but my friends did. All the cool people they met there were from NYC and all the CT kids were trendy punk druggy kids. Not even that but the party was over packed, was retarded, and ended up getting ended by cops because...omg they found ecstacy at a rave!!! HOLY JESUS NOT XTC!!!! anyways though the one thing i DO enjoy about CT is the houseparties. Always nice houses around here and always plenty of drinks and others...but be warned all you drinkers. NO WHERE IS ALLOWED TO SELL ALCOHOL IN CT AFTER 8!!!har har har. (of course youll find those various gas stations that dont care and still sell like bottles and shit but no hard stuff.

8pm?!?!?!!!! Wow its 11pm in MA and I have complained before that its still too early. ;) Good thing I'm not a big drinker, but dayum... 8pm, thats hardcore.
Oh and while I've heard horror stories of many a CT "raver" (usually Muni stories), there's also definitely a bunch of good ones, they know who they are. :)

Never one to indulge in useless online bickering, but I'll humor ya for a moment...
I have no clue as to why System opened after Insomnia. I do know this though.... Ever since it did, Attendence at Insomnia gradually slowed down and alot of the Insomniacs (myself included) went to where the real party, better music, better sound system, and a better vibe was at. System blew up so, till Insomnia had to close it's doors and renovate and open up as a "new and improved" club in an effort to gain business back from System. LOL!
A little FYI... System was still in operation when Insomnia became Vibe at the grand re-opening party dubbed "Thanksgroovin", a pre Thanksgiving party on Wednesday, November 22nd 2000.
It was in early December that System was shut down due to an incident where someone, after having already consumed a myriad of substances BEFORE entering the club, took ecstacy while at the club and died of a drug overdose AFTER leaving the club. (this is the CORRECT story ladies and gents)
After a bunch of legal and bureaucratic issues were resolved, System re-opened and appeared to be making a huge comeback with a string of VERY successful parties, including the unforgettable "War" and "Freedom" parties. However, Due to over-commercialization, negative media attention and an unbearable police presence, people stopped coming. System shut down shortly after July 28th 2001.
I said it before.. I'll say it again.
I've been hangin' out at System since it opened in January of '99. I watched it grow from an intimate gathering of friendly and unjaded people who respected music with zero to moderate drug use... to becoming commercialized and blowing up with over capacitied crowds of serious drug abusers/sellers.
People can say whatever they want about System.
To me, it was a place that shed light on a once unfamiliar culture, vibe and style of music. It was where it all began for me. Those were some damn good days.

Not a fan of most of the CT night life. Although if your interested Chrissy-or anybody, I can take you to a few Open Mic nights in Hartford that bring down the house. Also a few hardcore show I'm interested in going to... ;)
Or you all could just come over my house some night and swim drunk. Always good times.
Providence does have a few interesting clubs I like, Hell being a fav.

I'm completely on Speekah's wavelength here, like usual. Can always tell a true System head when ya talk to em... Anyways, to smiles:
How could you even think that insomnia/vibe is a better club than System was? System was more popular by far, and therefore took all of the heat from Hartford's "Raging Ecstacy Epidemic!". That is why it shut down before Vibe. Vibe plays horrible, trendy clubber music that can be heard on MTV and local pop radio stations like "Kiss 95.7!". Vibe is filled with a bunch of coked up preppies making horrible attempts at dancing. System at least had heart, and played good music. I'd rather go to the muni than to Vibe any day of the week. At least they have a bar....
Speekah: We need to meetup at a party sometime and reminisce about the good ol' days at System...Shit we would probably even recognize each other...

Here's a haiku by Imri Jonas of Motion/Buzz:
all things change
the scene is a house of cards
fall in love with art
I don't usually post on BL but I am old enough to have been around this scene for a little while and just wanted to say a few things. Just because CT isn't exactly blowin up the spot with the massifs doesn't mean the scene is dead or gone. It may have moved into the bedrooms (or living rooms!) for a little bit but that's ok. We're still far from a "finished product"
The people that truly love this music haven't gone anywhere and it's up to them to educate and help our thing grow. There's plenty of love if you know where to look
respect,
da one dem call Adam Strange
p.s. As long as there are still people like Teddy to vibe with we can't be doing that bad!
