Is MDMA an SSRI?

You can actually find the prescribing guidelines for GP's on the NHS's website, the informationm that the GP's themselves use to make decisions about what treatments to offer their customers. It is worth a read as it varies from region to region.

Tramadol is not something I have tried, but I do know the withdrawals from it after extended use can be rather unpleasant.

I am prescribed mirtazapine, and pregabalin, both of which basically just improve my appetite and make me sleepy.

Really I don't rely on my GP atall, I look out for myself........

Well, I haven't seen my gp in a couple of years to be honest. I deal with a psychiatrist that I see once every 3 months...If I want to tweak my prescription, we discuss it and any changes that I want are made.

So you don't just rely on yourself. At least not any more than I would claim to 'rely on myself', being in a similar situation to the one you describe.

Suppose I'm "out" now like yourself :p Though off course you are much more evil and madder than me %)

Debatable. ;) <3 :sus:

Happy coming out, btw.

The psych doesn't really know me but I feel confident that he's trying his best to help but as usual his tools are prescribing meds. Kind worrying is I have been all around the usual psycho therapy thangs they can offer... and still I'm fucking mad :|

I'm a firm believer that certain illnesses need to be medicated, although it can be a fucking horribly rocky road trying to find the right combination.

Luckily I'm a simple guy, so the simplest med seems to suit me fine. Sounds like you need to find your magic combo. Good luck.

Just by way of a reminder - before we get too deeply embedded in a general discussion of SSRIs and related matters - the OP is not actually asking about SSRIs for depression if you read what he posted. It's possible he may want his thread broadly on topic (but presumably not if he's at all familiar with EADD threads in general =D) so if anybody has any replies to the actual matter in hand do feel free to chip in in amongst the mental health discussions.

I'm quite embarrassed about that post, but hey ho, maybe its about time I came out..*cringe*

Nothing to be cringing about, Kate <3

Just so happens my most recent absence was actually for inpatient treatment in a psychiatric unit. That has its place too when truly necessary. I'd pick it over sodding SSRIs any day frankly :D

And to be fair, my medical matters on all fronts appear to have taken a sudden upturn in the being taken seriously stakes. Shame it took a... thing I'll not go into right now if y'all don't mind (one day, just not today) to get any movement at all on the "SSRIs, CBT or nowt" approach I've had for the last 1/4 century but the system is the system and is far from ideal. Mostly excellent but sadly not when it comes to matters of mental health and wellbeing.

What medication did you get while in there (if any)? Did you have much choice in medication?

My doc was open enough to prescribe me pregabalin for mood, off label. I've tried the other mood stuff (SSRI, TCA) and I'm not very eager to try MAO-inhibitors on my own, "outpatient", so it'd seem like I have a case of the ol' treatment resistant illness. I'm suggesting buprenorphine tomorrow... I'm currently taking codeine for chronic pain but switching to bupe may increase happiness for a short while..

No choice of meds thus far but is still a recent event and I'll need to attend a number of appointments before I can really know what is best suited to my current situation. Olanzapine and lorazepam is what I've been prescribed initially and is going okay. Other than that I've been dropped down - actually I suppose stepped up cos is now scripted - to friggin' paracetamol for the chronic pain thing. Would've been scripted bupe this week if it weren't for that inpatient thing (no opies for a week so not technically dependant). At least the paracetamol (yes, really :|) is scripted with a teensy-tiny crack in the door left open for other options when - shock horror!!! - paracetamol doesn't quite cut it. Got a funny feeling they'll try me on pregabalin as the next step too cos it's a case of "anything but an opioid" with my GP. Bupe works for both my pain issue and my depression (has been shown in trials to be effective for depression too so not just wishful thinking) but is currently on the back burner whilst I demonstrate good intentions. I've only used pregabalin "recreationally" and thought it was crap but if it can do a passable job at dealing with the mood and pain issues too that would be a bonus.

It could be worth looking into gabapentin if pregabalin doesn't do enough. Pregabalin is great for me when I get the dose right (=not too high), but other people swear by gabapentin instead. My doc wasn't willing to give me buprenorphine straight away, apparently it needs an opiate stamp of approval, said consult with other doc was needed first. So I looked into buying a few subutex's and lawdy are they expensive online now. I yused to buy strips of 7x8mg for 100e back in 2009 but can barely get two 8mg pills for that amount now.

What's the latest on how MDMA works?

If I remember correctly the reuptake pump working in reverse was debunked?
