This morning, at 4:40am to be precise, I was riding along a street, about to come up to an intersection where I had way. There were no cars there at all, no sounds of any cars, basically I could have kept going along, no stress.
However, I just had this gut feeling that there was going to be a car that would just keep going and not see me... So I slowed down a lot, and lo and behold, a taxi flies around the corner without even looking about 5 seconds later...
I would have been hit, probably killed by the speed he was going.
Now, I've had other experiences like this, and I'm beginning to think I've got this type of intuition to do with my mortality. Is it just me, or have others had this as well?

Well, firstly that's great you avoided the accident! I hate that sickening feeling you get when you only just avoid somehting nasty. Hope you pulled up ok...
As for intuition... well as my nick suggests, I'm already a fan of tarot cards and using my intuition in that way. I feel psychic when I'm rolling too, especially with my sister, it feels like we can read eachother's minds (incidentally, and slightly off topic, does anyone else ever feel psychic, or loads of de ja vu when you're on one??).
and ever since I started indulging in e, my intuition has increased even more so (I've been reading cards for 8 years now). You can laugh if you want, but I've seen some stuff that would make your heart either sing or shiver...
As for avoiding accidents, I've done that via intuition more times than I care to remember. It sometimes leads to me almost becoming complacent, thinking the universe will take care of me, so every now and again it gives me a leetle reminder. You know, when you have a really near miss? Near miss's are the universe' way of saying 'hey watch your step, can't be looking out for you all the time!'.
Mortality is one thing I think humans can just sense - like when a mother knows her kid has died. Death is powerful and shouldn't be toyed with. Drugs walk that fine line at times. Fate is another thing. It's all so interesting... and addictively fascinating since we all know we're going to die one day, and yet have no idea what's on the other side...
So that's my theory. Humans are addicted to the mysterious and grisly. Kinda like looking at a car accident. It's in built and instinctual (this is the psychologist coming out in me now).

It's late at night, its dark, you're riding a bicycle so you're vulnerable. I'd say it was more anxiety and consequent caution given the circumstances rather than any kind of intuition as such.

I've had quite a few incidences of this kind of thing. I don't belive in any kind of mystic sense or anything. I'll list a few of the things I can remember.
Recently I sat down one night and wrote a story about watching someone burn to death. I went to bed, woke up to my brother shaking me awake, shoving my uniform into my hands (I'm a volunteer firefighter) and telling me that there was a fire that I was called to. It turns out someone I knew had burned to death in it, and I saw the corpse, and ended up pulling sheets of tin away from it.
Anyway I can't remember any more at this point, but I'll post others when I remember them.

Interesting story.
Many times I've found myself arriving at decisions or conclusions without explicit or conscious processes of reasoned thinking. I guess we act most of the time without knowing why or what our reasons may be. In this sense almost all judgements and behaviour are intuitive.
I've always found "women's intuition" fascinating. I've noticed the subtle use of almost subliminal cues in social situations from gestures, casual remarks, and knowledge of behaviour patterns and motives. Generally, I'd have to say that women seem to pick this up earlier in life than men and maintain it to a higher degree.

I should clarify, I was riding a bicycle, for those that didn't realise.
Prom: But that's the thing, I'd be through heaps of red lights and cut corners etc. all night, 'cause there are never any cars out at 4:30am here. But it was this one specific corner that got to me...
It's a strange area to examine, and anyone else's stories/opinions would be great... I'm really keen to look at this more.

Regarding various levels of intuition: I believe that the bulk of intuition is the voice of the subconscious. The degree to which it manifests itself in individuals depends on how willing they are to listen to it.
An example: Dante happens to stop at this one light. The car would have been making noise, but not at a noticeable level. The subconscious could have still registered the noise and passed on a warning. Dante listened to it, and for that he is still with us :)
That said, I do believe on psychic phenomena. I just believe that the amount of people that have developed it to a useful degree is far smaller.

2 of cups..
I can relate.
I to read tarot, infact, I am wiccan and have been for years and I have very good intuition when it comes to people and situations...I am the only person I really trust and always listen to my "gut" feelings, they have never let me down.
I found that after I started taking E's, I have opend up other avenues in my mind..its a weird feeling but I do feel that I read situations alot better, my mind seems to be more intune with things and situations in my life and in others.
I think this is why alot of witches covens actually use drugs as part of thier rituals, to free the mind.

Jakoz got it spot on.
its more about being in tune with your surroundings. u can enhance such skills through meditation and u can become very sensitive to what happens around u subconsiously.

^^^^^ and this meditation opens up other channels in your brain not previously open... which intuition is a part of. So maybe a mixture of subconscious, enhanced awareness, innate instinctual behaviours and intuition could be responsible??
One of the useless things I learnt in my psych degree is that we only really know what 10% of our brain is up to. The remaining 90% who knows? So there's gotta be room to accept some sort of intuition, even if it can't be proven by science. It's not about clairvoyance per se, but it's definitely something that makes it's presence felt. If you're open to it, you can develop it through meditation etc. And through it you become more aware of other people (or maybe as you become more aware of other people, you become more aware of your intuition, who knows...), as astrayalien mentioned.
Hell, they don't even really know what seretonin is fully responsible for (although I'm sure we could provide 'them' with some enlightenment ;) )
So Dante, I think your experience is very plausible. And plazma, that's some sad/freaky stuff!!! Hope you held up ok too.

2 of cups : Everyone assumes I was somehow traumatised by the experience, the only thing that was unpleasant was the smell. Dead people are no different to dead animals, I went straight home and had breakfast without feeling sick at all, apart from the adreniline.
Thanks for the concern though. :)

without going to much into my up bringing, but I use to dream about something bad happening to me and within the next day or so it would happen just like in my dream.
I get de ja vu alot too. I go somewhere new and do something and its like ive been there in the exact location and done it b4. only ive never been there in my life kinda thing...
Oh and I instantly can tell about people. I hate liers and I cant stand it when people lie to me and I can see straight thru them.
A psychic once told me Im highly intuitive and I should always listen to my inner voice. I try to at times, but you no how it is and regret it later.

Well, I'm a stranger to occurances that I percieve to be weird, but I always follow my first instinct whenever dealing with anything, and I mean anything. All in all, this has done me a world of good.
There is also this strange form of luck that I have, but that is a whole story in an of itself.

Dante you got lights or reflectors on that bike you were riding? coz its very dangerous to ride at night without them.. maybe thats way he didn't see ya :)
but yeah i understand what ya saying, been there myself :)

Sydkiwi: me too, ditto, all of that.
Plazma: it's amazing how we as humans learn to and/or already know how cope with stressful situations. I'm glad it wasn't too traumatising for you. Some of us are more sensitive than others I guess!

some times i feel guilty for no reason and then i do somthing realy bad 2 days later but dont feel guilty. i dont know im gonna do this thing so maybe my mind knows im gonna do somthing bad so it gets the guilt out of the way before the evil deed occures.
mmmmmmmk!

Sydkiwi...

I get that heaps. I have dreams that im in a situation or at some place, and then years later i'm actually there and it's like.... I've seen this before in my dreams.... it is kind of freaky yet fun....

Merry meet and merry part...bright the cheeks and warm thy heart :) hehe... i myself do not bind myself to any religion of sorts, however, i do believe in many of the things in the wiccan lifestyle...its a lovely thing :)
and relating to topic, i have always been a fairly psycic/intuitive kind of a person. me and mum had a connection when i was little, a VERY strange one. ill have to ask her about it again because ive forgotten the things that used to happen. and with other closer people to me even now, im always one step ahead and know what they are about to say/think. i dont think its a weird thing, its nature, its life, its who we are.
i know not everyone likes this saying, but imho everything happens for a reason, and such things as intuition are there for a purpose as well

Dvah: cool :) . I, like Taliana, don't commit to one religion, but Wiccans certainly are the best of the bunch in my opinion :) . Wi*********ves very strongly in intuition and the like... I think they have some theories on mortality intuits?? Does anyone know??
