Buzzing feeling, violent wake up from dreams

Hi guys, I've started having this really weird thing happened to me lately.. in fact it started happening since I first took mushrooms 2 months ago, when i actually fell asleep when tripping because I was so tired. I actually found another post describing it really well and is pretty much exactly what happens to me, see here:

"there's one thing that trips me out real bad. I'll fall asleep and start dreaming, it's usually a pretty weird dream but i start to get this really strange vibrating, buzzing feeling really intensely, sort of like strong DXM. Sometimes the dream will be normal and get horrifying and the buzzing thing happens. It feels like i can't scream or move when it happens but i know that i'm dreaming and can't wake up. I've gotten to the point where when i know it's happening i can wake up shortly after and i usually try to stay awake so it doesn't happen again. It only happens weeks apart and seems to happen after smoking or drinking a lot that weekend or something. I have no idea what it means or if it's a problem but it does keep me up at night a lot."

this exact thing happens to me, and only started happening since taking those mushrooms., even though i did acid a few time sbefore that. also, when i first wake up from it, i get slight closed eye visuals of purple dots covering my entire vision, kind of like a slight mda hallucination, for a few minutes or so. is this like an in dream flashback? anyone else get this and know what could cause it/how to get rid of it? it's quite scary when it happens.

^Research hypnagogic hallucinations. I have experienced what you've described, as well as waking up in violent panic attacks and in seemingly geomtertical wonderland

nearly the same happened to me as well. the night after my first MDMA experience i entered a dream state that was so similar to reality that i am partly convinced that it was another aspect of reality, on a different plane (which one could say about any dream state really). anyways, during this dream i encountered some "individuals" in a truck who had a large quantity of what appeared to be ecsatsy pills. i took one and started to get this reported "dream buzz" it got to the point where the buzzing sensation was MORE pleasureable than the MDMA from the night before. after a short while, i awoke, startled and confused. i automatically got out of bed and started searching my room for a VIcks Inhaler :D . i couldnt find one. i was more or less fully awake (at least i think i was) and was still feeling the intense buzzing pleasure. i called one of my friends in an attempt to verify the reality which i was experiencing. Before the phone call i had no clue if i was awake or still asleep. after the call i concluded that i was indeed awake, and this calmed me down, the buzzing went away, and i returned to an uneventful, relatively speaking, dreamscape.

just thought id throw that out there.

I don't think it's got anything to do with the mushrooms, that's just a coincidence. How often is it happening?

It might be that the mushroom trip somehow triggered the offset of these experiences. I never had a hypnagogic experience before I started smoking massive amounts of cannabis. After that, sleep paralysis has been something that happens to me from time to time. At some periods, I'm getting it almost every time I try to fall asleep. Sometimes I can go months without it happening once.

Yes, this same thing has happened to me, wierd I thought I was alone.

What your experiencing is usually referred to as Sleep Paralysis, but also known as Astral Projecting to some people. This used to happen to me all the time, the feeling of terror is a normal effect it has on people. Next time it happens try not to fight it and let yourself buzz all you want. The buzzing is usually associated with the splitting of the astral body from the physical body. Don't be scared, have fun and explore that dimension!

I've had similar episodes a few times. The few truly lucid dreams that I've had are coupled with a painful buzzing/pressure in my head, which seems to always precede the 'scene' changing drastically. It's feels almost as if I'm being torn out of one reality and thrown into another.

Until just reading this thread, I never considered it being a product of sleep paralysis, but that makes a lot of sense. I tend to 'wake up' for brief moments (or at the very least, dream that I'm awake), but then, as I'm helplessly looking at my girlfriend, she always becomes some gigantic rock-like creature (think Shadow of the Colossus) and I cower back into my dream.

The next time it happens, I'll have to try not to fight it so much. Astral projection sounds like it'd be a welcomed experience.

i never truly 'wake up' after the buzzing, but i am always transported to a new place. generally onto my bed. so i'm still dreaming, but dreaming that i've just woken up, but are trying to REALLY wake up if that makes sense. i think i actually have some control over this scene because at times i've tried everything from jumping out of a bedroom window, to running out across the park and into someone's house while still trying to 'wake up' (in the dream this is). oftentimes i'll be transported back to my bed and repeat the whole 'try and wake up' process 9-10 times before i finally wake up in real life.

now i just worry that it will get so realistic i won't be able to separate dream from reality and i'll end up jumping out my window again thinking i was dreaming only to find out i was actually awake and die or something lol..

The out-of-body experiences you are describing are called astral projection, and you are very lucky to experience them. I've never really managed to do that even though I've tried very hard. There's just something too damn uncomfortable about the sleep paralysis thing for me to stay focused and not force myself to wake up from it... I've had some mighty weird dreams in that state though.

Oh, and I don't think you need to worry about jumping out of your window thinking you are dreaming when you're actually not. The mind has very efficient defense mechanisms against doing something stupid like that when you're awake.

If you want to avoid this feeling, SSRIs such as Fluoxetine (aka Prozac) before bedtime are known to be very effective at preventing it. Naturally occurring SSRIs such as kanna would probably work too.

It's not a coincidence that this happens after taking mushrooms, there are many clinical examples of sleep paralysis following use of psychedelics. It is hardly ever a permanent condition, though.

I look forward to the next time it happens to me, actually, which may be tonight. I want to try to break through the fear and escape my body.

Ahh i thnought i was the only one too. This shit happens to me too, all my roomates shroom and smoke pot but none of them experience this and none of my friends do either. It usually happens when i smoke alllot before bed, like a jay or blunt to myself. THen i get the intense buzzing usually with loud whistles also, I then feel my body usually legs first being lifted up into the air and twirled, this eventually extends to my body. I then start traveling down a tunnel usually. Very colorful and fast paced. Then at the end i usually end up seeing or encouintering aliens Like the classic one u see in movies, grey face big head big eyes ect. THis also starteds after started taking mushrooms, and on a few of my trips i have seen these exact same hallucinations reproduced by myself in my dreams. The last time this happend to me (3 nights ago) i was thinking as it was happening that i was jsut going to see a bunch of aliens at the end and how repetitive this occurance was, but instead i saw a large flaming head floating around laughing at me like a whitch in harmony witht he buzzing and whistleing in my head, i woke up with a fast heartbeat. I have also used this feeling to break into my dreaqms (lucid dream/ astral projection) And i find that i have these about 70% of the time if i wake up early smoke and get lazy and go back to bed. Ha sorry i had to get that out, this happens to me at least once a week.
