Hey there BDD,
what do people think about insufflating these Canadian generic extended-release methylphenidates? In true harm reduction style I just gave a little bump a try from the residue of a capsule I was preparing, even though I figured it was a bad idea. Now I'm a bit high, surprisingly so for the size of the bump I did. I figured after the fact I should look into whether this was in fact a super-inadvisable thing, or whether I might indulge a bit in the future. :D
seeing no threads or comments on this particular generic, I thought I'd post one. I've found crushing these pills releases a white substance that readily becomes fine powder. I like to stick that in a gelcap, effectively making my ER an IR. (so I believe at least, something which may not, probably won't work with brand name Concerta.) but still there is probably plenty of crap in these. in fact (for the 18mg): Each yellow, capsule-shaped, film-coated, extended release tablet, engraved with "N" on one side and "18" on the other side contains methylphenidate hydrochloride 18 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol- polyethylene glycol copolymer and colloidal silica, simethicone, stearic acid, D&C Yellow No. 10 Aluminum Lake, FD&C Red No. 40 Aluminum Lake, iron oxide yellow, polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohol, talc, and titanium dioxide. (source)
how bad are these components for the ol' nasal passages? really the only ingredients that seem worrisome in terms of insufflation are the simethicone, talc, and titanium dioxide. the colloidal silica, maybe, but I think it's just in the coating, which doesn't really get crushed up and can be easily removed. the rest I can pretty much tell are either no big deal or almost definitely just in the coating. the simethicone is an OTC drug in itself, but I guess an inactive ingredient in the quantities here...
I know there are various extraction teks but my interest level isn't really that high.
incidentally I find one 18mg ER intact, and one crushed, both taken orally, is great for me. (context of use not recreational or clinical, but occasional experimentation as focus aid... though it's also a bit more enjoyable this way than simply taking the ERs)
