Is it safe to inject slow-release morphine sulphate tablets?

Injecting pills in general usually isn't a safe thing to do. I can only think of two that seem relatively safe and that's the sublingual buprenorphine tabs and Knoll brand Dilaudids. Someone (maybe the tripdoctor) used the analogy that poking pills is like sand-blasting your liver. That's pretty accurate. Pill particles are often found in the livers of dead pill pokers. That cant be a good thing.
Some, including myself, argue that IV administration of street drugs like coke, meth, and heroin is a safer practice than IVing pharmaceutica; pills. The accute health risks of IVing street drugs seem to be greater but that's more of a dosage issue. Slamming pills definately carries more chronic health risks.

The danger comes from the other ingredients in the pills such as magnesium stearate and corn starch which are very bad for you to deposit in a vein to say the least, people used to inject tablets of a narcotic called diconal because it apparently makes heroin look like codeine

the problem is these tabs had silicone in them which got shot up with everything else and caused all kinds of problems, some even had to have legs and arms amputated.
There are ingredients which are safe as well, in fact if you type "codeine" by itself in Rxlist you get a monograph for tablets made purely of codeine, lactose and sucrose made specifically for injection http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/codphos.htm
these will work just fine but only because the sugars are completely harmless and soluble. Dilaudid brand name tabs are another that are composed of the sugar glucose and are injectable. Generally if its a pill its been made to stay together all the way into your stomache with all kinds of binders. some are soluble with the drug and some arent, some will make a huge mess when you add water to them, others may work perfectly.
The general rule is dont try and inject pills because for the most part the binder isnt good for you at all and may cause serious problems, for the few that are injectable which are made of sugars, you may inject theses and infact the pharmaceutical community makes tablets specifically for it so its not just a street trick its valid and normal, you just need a good pill. The other problem is that even though a pill may be injectable it may not be the same as on the monograph and may be different such as Dilaudid brand names and the generics where they are composed differently and the generics are worth less because you cant inject them. Im leaving you with a magic link its called Rxlist and they have the ingredients for just about every pharmaceutical on the first page of the monograph just type the drug. http://www.rxlist.com/

Morphine Sulfate huh? Is it safe huh?
Hey I have a question for yea.....Does anyone on this board remember a "Quiksilver"? I think i remember him a bit,....oh yea thats right... he ODed and passed away injectinmg Morhpine sulfate.
The truth is thats like injecting Oxycotin, VERY VERY dangerous, one slip up and your gone. Please do not try injecting this drug unless you know how to inject and you familuirize yourself with this drug.
Just please be safe.
By the way, for those of you who don't know Quiksilver was my best friend.

He overdosed. He didn;t die from complications that resulted from IVing the pill itself. He took too much of the drug at once. Overdose deaths are a comman result of many drugs and all means of administration when too much is ingested.

What exactly do you mean by "slip up"? Besides overdosing I can't think of a reason that someone would die from a single Oxycontin injection. It's near impossible. Also, I would bet that there isn't a single death linked to a single IV hit of oxycontin at a reasonable dose.
The health risks associated with IVing oxycontin are not accute. Problems occur from doing this over and over again...I'm talking years of abuse.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to IV either of these pills. Spreading false information isn't the right way to deter people though.

Quicksilver was a good friend, but the same rules apply - you can't blame the drug!
Saying OxyContin is dangerous is just plain foolish - it is a VERY SAFE drug, the danger comes from users injecting tablets that are ment to be taken orally - there is even a SPECIFIC warning on the package inserts that warn abusers to NOT INJECT the pills ..
There is another thread on this - in short - 'Contin' pills can be crushed and snorted, but keep them OUT of the veins!
