Howdy, will keep this short and sweet.

For the last few years i've lead a very physically inactive life. But i've decided i want to structure my day with a solid routine which would include 30mins of exercise per day minimum(working up to this at the start).

Anyways my concern is that my metabolism is going to speed up and this could affect my methadone. Is this just paranoia or would my body literally be metabolising and getting rid of the methadone faster.

And if this is the case would it be appropriate to adjust my dose to counter act this effect.

Thanks. Feel free to move or whatever if another forum was more appropriate.

I'll take an relativly ignorant stab at this. Methadone is a drug that varies a great deal from individual to individual. I think individual variations in liver enzymes are a much bigger factor in this than metabolic rate. Ask personnel at your clinic if they have any advice.

If they don't forsee any problems I'd start up the exercise gradually but still watch out for any problems. I expect there to be some discomfort moving from sedentary to more active but I think you will likely be feeling better as well. Maybe some people with experience with methadone and exercise will be able to give some advice which will likely be better than me giving a best guess based on web articles.

Hope you enjoy the exercise.

I take suboxone and I work out for an hour 4-5 days/week. I've never felt as if the suboxone was decreased or was leaving my system faster because of it (actually I wound end up feeling better due to all the endorphins and such). I don't know exactly how methadone works, but I know for bupe it binds to the receptors in the brain, so in theory once it's already binded to the brain then your metabolism shouldn't have anything to do with it at that point. I could be wrong tho.
