Too many cooks in the kitchen? Perhaps there should be a head chef?

They should also hurl hilarious insults at everyone for our amusement!!

I think we need to open the communications channels a bit. There are a lot of verbal agreements, but it never seems like the word gets from point A to point B. I've been promised one thing from one person, then no one seems to remember it later because nothing is set in stone. This is the issue. We all need to be on the same page or else we'll just be flapping in the breeze. I've offered to consolidate the communication in a private forum on indydnb.com or even set up a google group / email chain, but no one bit at that. I've offered to get some kind of a who's who on DJs (wiki-style) and get multiple links/mirrors to setlists/mixes but no one's bit there either.

It's pretty frustrating to see a lack of organization with so many people willing to help out. From what I gathered, Juxtapoze was supposed to be a democratic order of DJ's coming together for the benefit of the "scene", but so far it's anything but. No-shows on headliners without explanation, sudden day-before schedule conflicts, equipment setup/teardown/compensation, lack of lineups even a week in advance. Tuesday nights were supposed to be about bringing everyone back together, but I've seen little to no improvement.

Ever since Juxtapose started 1.5 months ago, I've been at every show and tried to do what I can to put my efforts into the ring, but getting absolutely nothing back out of it. I've skipped the last 2 weeks because of having to move, but I'm hoping we can get back on track for lineups and headliners for August. It's already Monday and there's no flier or lineup for tomorrow's show, which is exactly the problem keeping us from rising above the lazy stigma that's been attached to Tuesday nights for so long.

I know there are growing pains and that every good thing starts from a small seed, but it would be nice to see some effort put out by whoever's in charge (I still don't even know). Let's shake that nasty label Tuesday nights have been branded with and do this proper. Posting a lineup for tomorrow would be a nice start.

thanks for repeating what i said...basically if we need help rest assured it would be requested. we appreciate the offer and the insight but rehashing semantics is just spinning the wheels. just relax and let us trim the fat and work out the kinks. juxtapose has only officially had 4 weeks under its belt, people, and is not just about one person running the show...we organize/plan/plot and work it out. having one person run the night would be creating another geek and or gary. the post i made was to acknowledge that some things weren't working the way we planned, not to complain. the lineup for august and what's in the works for september/october/november are going to be heavy and we'll get the run of things ;) just come out and support.

without further ado:

this tues brings u

9:30 - 10:30 king swagger

george, get at me about this radio show you have running, i have a couple of questions and concerns.

You said having one person run the night would be creating another Geek, but whats the issue with that? I know Gary didnt have very much luck on Tuesdays (nobody saw that coming...), but Geek ran it for a few years without much trouble (with the help of some dedicated friends, ie Monkey).

Maybe having a single person handle everything would be the best instead of multiple people all trying to do the same thing and stepping on each others toes. Or subsequently dropping the ball when they think one of the other guys will take care of it and then dont. Having your own personal/private message forum seems like a good start if multiple people are helping out, it will give you a centralized point of communication to post ideas, lineups, flyer images, discussions, etc, about the night.

As I've stated in all previous meetings, I'm here to help out wherever needed. I don't need to have my name associated with it heavily or at all for that matter. I love good electronic music, I love the Mel. I want it to continue for years to come as I've personally watched it transform multiple times between promoters and genres. There's a great group involved here but I feel egos are getting in the way as per normal with a "collective" If there isn't some sort of titles and assignments put in place soon for everyone to do it could be a disaster. Put one or two people in charge of bookings, they communicate with the flyer designer and he makes a flyer. Discuss as a whole collective what is to be charged for each week dependent on who is playing. ONE person handles the moneys, there should be a bank acct started for the night so there is financial paperwork disclosing ALL monetary usage. I would also like to suggest kicking your djs some gas money when they play(not residents as much unless it's a needed thing) the "headliners" (even local) deserve something more than draft beer for their time. It costs money to get there. I'm not saying we all deserve $200 as locals, kick $10-20 for gas and such, it's fair. None of you guys would be ok with playing out of town for free, why is it cool because it's the same city you live in. That's just a start on suggestions. I'm sorry I haven't made the last 2 "meetings" I was out of town for the first and passed out before the one yesterday. These are just a few things I've noticed over the past few years. Make sure to use the knowedge of the few of us who have been around the block a few times within this scene for help, I'm sure between us old folks we've seen it all.

I've never been invited to a meeting...

LOL. Geek's the DEVIL!!!!! (But Geek had flyers and lineups done a month in advance of the FIRST WEEK of the month.)

just sayin.

I agree that it should be more than one person running the night... obviously it seems there were too many people involved at conception though. I think everybody should be involved in the night and promoting and bringing new ideas to the table.

But it seems to me that having a limited number of people actually in charge of making sure the night goes down smoothly is a must. There definitely feels like there are some ego issues right now. Which is counterproductive. :(

We've lost our dedicated equipment provider :( (as well as just a cool cat in general) due to some b.s. in my opinion. But I feel like my opinion has mostly been in one ear and out the other.

Hopefully we can keep everything moving forward, get these flyers and get down to real promoting.
Getting some good hip hop dj's out and on our flyers would boost appeal as well.
I'm looking forward to having Topspeed out this month. I think that's a positive direction to be moving in. =D
And, I appreciate the variety, but it seems like we've lost the core of bass music we had going. Having the techno and house out is great, but I think bringing in proper hip hop acts and dj's and club dj's out and having the right dubstep and dnb bookending the hip hop set would do a lot for getting heads in the door as well... if not even more so. 8o

Just some thoughts.

We have some great ideas and people who are dedicated... just need to streamline and communicate.

<3

flyers off to print. should be online shortly. kinda worked out with the two last minute changes for tonight as it is

Yeah...I saw those flyers for the vollrath events...even months in advance and u packed the house w ur Dilligent flyering.point of my statement is we don't want another egomaniac on our hands. As for hip hop being at the mel...top speed, hello!?

I'm guessing it's not as much of an issue for the Serato DJs, but having the tables right next to the subwoofer isn't good.

Had a good time! Decent turnout.
