I was definitely skeptical leading up to this but I must say the event exceeded my expectations. The room sounded GREAT (besides the drumming of Meltdown which I will never be a fan of) and the decor was much improved. The floor was painted, I liked the hanging screen in the main room and the lounge has a nice booth. Oh and the mirrors behind the bar was also a nice touch.

I had a good time last night (maybe to good) They got a lot more people than I thought they would. The sound was also WAY better then I expected. For those who care I'll be playing every Saturday night at Pulse.

Hope to see ya's out. I'm looking forward to being able to play what I want again in Indy. just a little fyi. I'll be starting the night with some down beat then moving into deep house and get harder and tuffer as the night goes on..

im now sorry i didnt get on here and weigh in before the show, yes they hired me to consult on the sound, yes i fixed the horns, not replaced them... i bought four new diaphragms and fixed the four blown horns...

i also took every thing.. i mean everything out of the amp/light/video booth, and started from scratch with the equipment that was there... rewired the rack, blew out the amps, i even vacuumed the booth before i put everything back in there..

im thrilled at the fact that the sound exceeded john and taylors expectations... i put in quite a few hours to make this room sound as good as i could with the least possible budget in parts and equipment...

im not saying that they couldnt spend more money, god knows ive done many higher dollar jobs.. (after all i did pulse orlando http://www.pulseorlando.com/club.php, ironic huh)

and im not saying that it wouldnt have sounded better if they would have contracted me to bring in the mini EAW line array that slater has me bring into BLU for keepin it deep...or should i say hyde? but thats another thread...

point is though they dont know what to expect from this venture, they are willing to spend money, but they want to see they are going to be profitable... times are though for everyone and i dont blame them a bit for not dropping 200k on a new Martin Audio LTD sound system like pulse orlando did, i always recommend to a club owner the best thing to do it drop half a million dont open to the public untill youve had a week long 24/7 media family and friends soft opening, have a bangin birthday, and sell the club within six months... but that doesnt happen here... and that is noones fault but the market we live in...

do they need a pos system, hell yes, do they need to figure out parking, hell yes... but hey, on the bright side, they weren't prepared for the response that we gave them to this event.. thats a great thing if you think about it for a second... you can bet that next time they will be closer to where they need to be, i just hope we as a market dont disappoint them by not giving them a chance to live and learn... how many "raves" did we goto where things were f*cked as all hell.. i remember a stand off between nation guardsmen in BDU's and cincci cops in parade dress... now that is a problem... and ten years later we dont have the patience to believe a no parking sign or give the bartend a break when they are obviously overwhelmed... not saying dont be pissed, just saying give them another chance... it is without a doubt what is best for.. dare i.. "the scene"

I contacted Vicki who is the bar manager and after some emails and sending proof my account was billed she refunded the full $60 while being very apologetic. Hopefully they will get the kinks worked out. Until then Im bringing cash ;)

There's a big difference between some 19 yr old kid who decided to throw a party in a warehouse and a club business. Just sayin' we need to stop comparing club ventures with DiY events that we used to host/attend as children.

And hopefully, the owners will be able to make whatever deal Brad had made with that side lot. That's such a convenient parking lot and, with parking on minimum in that little area, it's rough finding parking that doesn't have you biting nails the entire time. But I'm sure this is something the owners and Uriah are working out.

There's some excellent parking in that area, but every place has a sign threatening towing. What to believe? What not to believe? If we believed every sign out there, that would leave us with just that little lot behind Pulse. And that fits, what? 30 cars? It'd be nice to know which No Parking sign to believe and which to wink at.

we parked at a meter on washington and east street. not even a 2 block walk. pussies.:p

Yea, but Ripple is a literal "village" of bars & nightclubs perfect for hopping. If you look at other destination venues in Indy like Talbott, Birdy's, the old Gelo, places like that always have they're own private lot. This just one of many things that need immediate attention.

personally I can name about ten different things that take priority above parking, etc. namely consciousness of the needs/wants of the educated and experienced participants of the electronic music scene. its called quality control...and it seems that pulse took heed of the 'rants' on BL to ensure BBB went off as well as it did. moreso than that I see that liberal diversity within the local dj pool takes precedence beyond anything logistical. solidarity between crews > punters needs. juxtapoze has proved that. everything else will come into place after uniting the scene for the common good. we all have the same agenda so why splinter that common consensus for the sake of individual needs?

I don't think a business can take the example of a single-nightly weekly as a business model for their multiple, on-going nights. Tuesday night @ Mel works on Tuesday night @ the Mel; it may not translate to an bar that's open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and maybe Sunday.

Nor do I think the average bar needs to worry itself with the "solidarity" of local crews. In fact, a bar should be beyond that, neutral. A bar that picks sides is one destined to fail when that crew inevitably goes out of favor -- and all crews go cycle in and out of favor.

Pulse, Tru, and Blu would all do well to get involved in "scene politics" as little as possible.

"Scene solidarity" and "crew politics" should be left to the crew, not the venue. This is a business, folks, and a venue has a lot more to worry about than whether Seth's crew and Jack's crew (just to name two) get along. In fact, for a single night, a single Tuesday, for instance, a promoter may feel the pinch of leaked animosity. I doubt a night club will have to worry about that, so long as they are staying out of it and showing that they have no favorites.

Pulse, to keep the example, have other nights to fill, many of which will be unmarred by any scene politic goings-on. The average punter -- which, sorry, is far more important to the bottom dollar than some folks seem to want to give them credit for -- doesn't care about scene politics. The moment Pulse starts playing favorites (beyond the "so-and-so promoter brings the heads and such-and-such promoter leaves my bar empty"), then they'll have to deal when the inevitable fall-out against that promoter hits.

So while George and Taylor and Jack and Seth should concern themselves with solidarity amongst crews, this is not Pulse's concern. And if Uriah chooses to concern himself with such doings, it certainly shouldn't be higher on the list than getting some sort of POS for the bar and, yes, parking.

Sorry, George -- this may be your #1 concern, and I'm happy that you are so concerned with it, but this is something the bars need to stay out of.

u totally glossed over my point. no worries...

point was if we continue to keep an open dialogue about everything that could be better it'll make it easier to address issues such as parking, etc that affects bottom lines like attendance. yes, the 'bar' should be neutral in regards to how we operate our collective agenda but we can promote change by working on such matters w bar owners.

So . . . maybe some clarity is needed?

i need to stop bluelighting from my phone. mayhaps it's hindering my ability to say what i want.

i dunno :\ everything's just exhausted me. maybe i will just stfu and go back to trolling...
