Improving the appearance of your face?

Unfortunately, you cannot get "fresh" air in LA. i've dissected the lungs of city living folks and their lungs are all black in color from the pollution. then i dissect a corpse and examine their lungs and they look clean and non-black like most healthy colored tissues-pinkish/light brown(ie: Colorado)..

i've seen dozens of corpes like this donated to science for dissection, and it's always like this. the corpse's with "black" looking lungs were not smokers either nor did they die from lung cancer. So, I know i'm breathing toxic air in LA, but i'm not going to die of lung cancer cuz i don't smoke cigs, yet i'm sure my health probably is not optimal. thus, i train and do cardio indoors at a gym instead of jogging along the streets with car/industrial exhaust fumes.

Hmm..what about a nice drive to the coast or out in the desert every couple of weeks? I live in the crappy central valley near fresno, so I understand..the air here is like a pit of trapped pollution and heat..its god awful. During the summer I like to drive up into the natural park and enjoy the clean, elevated air as much as I can. :) (I know this isnt enough to improve overall lung condition, but its nice)

Hi, just a quick question about the fish oil capsules and Omgea-3's. I can't find cod liver oil or fish oil for the life of me so I was wondering if Flax seed oil capsules/Flax oil would give me a decent amount of Omega-3s?

I have a very clear face but it was a bitch to get there. I used to go to a dermatologist and he put me on this pill called "Accutane". Now, this pill severely dried my skin out and did the same thing to my hair. So I finished off my pills throughout the month and quit taking them. I started changing things in my diet, such as cutting out refined sugar completely and replacing it with fruits like organic apples and berries, aswell as other aspects. Now, these did wonders to my face but what really worked was exercise. I try to walk about 45 - 70 min a day and since this change in diet and exercise I have found myself with a very nice complextion. However, I do find that I still have dry skin from time to time, but I believe that is a repercussion of the Accuntane.

Good luck!

Flax contains the same Omega-3 as fish oil/cod liver oil, however it takes the body a bit of a conversion process to make the DHA into a form it "likes" and can use most efficiently. It takes more flax to get the same amount of DHA as you can from fish oil (which is already in the preferred form), and if you need large amounts for therapeutic purposes it's an inefficient way to take Omega3 in my opinion.

Therefore I would recommend flax over fish only if you're vegetarian or need it just as a maintainance dose. I'm surprised you can't find fish oil... where do you live? It's in most supermarkets and health food shops.

Excellent advice, I use it everyday and it is brilliant.. also quite cheap :)

Yep, and easily available. If it's only your skin that you are worried about and you don't want to make any lifestyle changes; screw all the other ideas and get some aqueous cream. It's what the doctors prescribe for dry skin complaints.

The fruit shake I mentioned earlier PLUS heres a good tip: and I wouldnt mention it if it didnt work for me: BEROCCA!

I wake up and have an effervescent Berocca in half glass of water. Got lots to do anyway so might be half an hour before I have a cup of tea. Breakfast is the fruit soup/shake I mentioned earlier. This is not a regime that is like some kind of prison sentence. Once you feel the results (immediately) and see the results (two days tops) breakfast takes on a whole new meaning.

Rest of the the day is up to you of course but give your body a boost and your brain a break and just try this for a week.

Report back.

Plenty of water. How is your skin looking?

And not to mention potential mercury contamination in fish. The fish oils supplements are usually made from species least prone to contamination.

Actually it's the very process of making the fish into fish oil capsules that causes the mercury content to be so low. It goes through extraction, filtration and purification processes by which time most of the heavy metals are filtered out.

In Australia the government body the Therapeutic Goods Administration regulates the amount of mercury "allowed" in supplements: it's something like 0.0001%. Most supplements are actually lower than that.

Drink lodas and loads of water.

Good skin does come from within. Look at your diet first before slapping lotions on your face or taking medication supplied by the dermatologist.

A molecule is a molecule is a molecule. Vitamin c has the exact same structure, shape, molecular weight etc no matter how it has been made. Every vitamin C molecule in the universe has the same shape, structure, etc... If not, then it's not vitamin C. Molecular shapes are defined by quantum mechanics and are not open to "interpretation" or alteration based on whether the molecule is man-made or not. Man made molecules are no different from any other.

For people to say that vitamins produced "artificially" are different to vitamins produced naturally is simply incorrect. People who tout these theories usually have never studied chemistry, and are trying to push "alternative" theories about health. it's artficial products that are ruining our lives... (this is usally coupled with "buy my alternative natural health product instead!")

If you decide to go see a dermatologist I would recommend that you pass on the antibiotics if they offer them to you. Its best to keep your antibiotic intake as low as possible, as your body can become immune to them. Save the antibiotics for something more serious than acne. I will admit that when I was 16 I went to a dermatologist and he prescribed some antibiotics along with a couple tubes of cream. The antibiotics cleared my face but they also produced a large amount of nausea for everyday that I took them. The prescription creams didn't work either, just made things worse.

Good hygene is all that you really need to have. Wash your face in the morning, afternoon, and at night with some sort of face cleanser. Take a shower everyday, take a multivitamin complex everyday, and a fish oil supplement might help. Maintain a good diet and stay away from the greasy fast food, foods with a large sugar content, and keep your soda intake to 0-2 beverages. Limit products that contain caffeine and drink water!

Hi all - I just split the Supplements vs. a Balanced diet argument into it's own thread. I think it's a good topic but didn't belong in this discussion.

(ps. deja... sorry, I couldn't help myself. I know I emailed you but I was itching to do it... I'll stay out now!) :)

fat free yogurt , omega 3 eggs, virgin olive oil, sardines ( the good ones in the red wrapper, celery, lots of water ( not tap water unless you boil out the chroline or let it evap. over night ) sunlight a few minutes direct hit snd indirect into the eyes , not too much . and finally dont repress anger ( see any jack sarno book and just transpose "skin problem " or any health problem into any part where he says " back problem " (and , yes , I DO believ most health problems are psychosomatic in fact I had a bit of anger at my mom two days ago and what happened? I got a whole massof tiny red zits on my forehead , I had had clear skin for a few MONTHS till this . I had done coke a few times no problem I had eaten candy and slept poorly last month but it took getting pissed and not being able to say I was pissed (( its about mothers day frchrissakes ok ? ) to cause my skin problem !!

My mom told me that my skin has gotten even more baby soft and smooth lately....I can only surmise it's because of the carrot juice I drink almost every other day (I haven't really done anything different from my usual skin care regimen which is very sparse to begin with!)

I used to just wash my face with reg. soap then get a good handful of pure aloe very gel(99.% ) ,which you find at most health stores, and rub it into my face.It left my skin nice and smooth and got rid of all my acne. Now i just put two table spoons of apple vinegar into two cups of water and leave it in a closed container next to my sink to dab all over my face when i get out of the shower. My skin color has improved/darkened and any sign of break outs or whatsoever dissapears.Simple.

The skin on my face isn't in the best condition. I don't have acne really, it's just red and doesn't look healthy. What is the best face wash to use? Any foods to eat? Any lotions?

i used to have bad skin and tried this:

1) I only really drink water..not cuz i force myself...after about 3 months of doing this, I couldn't really go back.
2) Noxema
3) St. Ides Apricot Scrub
4) Palmer's Coco Butter.

u'll have nice skin in no time :D

i also put on a mud mask like 2 times a month...i'm about 31 years old..and people tell me, cuz i'm clean shaven that I look like i'm 21.

Good thread - some interesting advice!

If you need to Put all said berries in a blender with a couple iof spoonfuls of natural yoghurt, two freeshly squeezed oranges, Repeat once a day.

Yum! :)

Drink lodas and loads of water.

I often had dry skin and sometimes suffered with eczema until I started drinking more water. i couldn't believe the difference something so simple could make to the quality of my skin! :)

If you can afford to, get proactive. It works pretty well. And since you dont have bad acne or anything you could probably get around by using it once every two days, instead of twice a day.
